Gid'day...Oyster here...Just returned from cruise on Royal Caribbean Brilliance of the Seas as Billiard Expert. Cruise was 11 days to Aruba, Panama Canal, Costa Rica and Grand Cayman. I put on 5 Power Point Billiard lectures, during days at Sea in the Colony Club Arena which lasted 45-60 minutes each to the guests on the Cruise. Afterwards, I carried the theme over to the Bombay Billiard Room for an additional 1-2 hour which consisted of a trick shot exhibition, demonstration and application of material covered along with many one on one instructions throughout the cruise. Classes were quite large and all stood and applauded after each. This is a new test market for the Cruise line. I have been invited back for many more cruises as this was a surely a hit. Weather was perfect and I met many wonderful people. If anyone would like to know more about my expierence I would be glad to share any thoughts and comments. Happy Holidays to All! how did the tables play? did they throw any tourments on board? and do you happen to know a place i can find out what royal caribbean ships currently have tables on board??
thanks and congrats, i cant think of a better job then to play/teach pool on a cruise.

That sounds like a lot of fun. 11 days? You must be very relaxed, and well rested.

I went on a three day cruise on Roal Caribbean, and it felt like a full week.

Gyro Billiard Tables/Food

The 2 tables are Valley and are built upon the Gyro system. The cloth is Mali and is in fair condition. The cues are the worst I have ever seen. 8 cues in the custom in-wall locking wood display case. 6 of them had no tips, just cracked/broken ferrules which many of the guests used anyway. I think most didn't even know the difference. The 2 that had tips, 1 was a slip-on and the leather-material on top was worn throught to the plastic. The other was a glue on tip which was flat as a nail head and all mushroomed out. All the cues were severely warped. One was glued together at the juncture by means of an interlocking teeth wood trim joint. Never seen that before. So, if you are planning on boarding, I'd surely bring your own cue. Sneeky Pete would work great. I took my Predator Demo Sneeky in the Predator soft case that comes with the cues. This way I just folded up the case and placed it under the wood rack the balls come in. You have to give your Sea Pass card to the bartender in the Schooner Bar to get the balls. The cue balls were extremely pitted. Understandable since people were hitting the cue ball with sharp hard plastic ferrules. There were 3 racks; 2 wood/1 plastic, 1 wood was broken. The stuff we call chalk came from K-Mart and was 99% used up. Guess Royal Caribbean is on a tight budget these days with the expensive fuel costs. The rails and pocket cut angles were terrible. Dead spots everywhere.

But to be able to hit balls toward a moving ocean while on a cruise is quite awesome. But make sure you push the "ON" button on the front of the table when you want to play on the level table. I noticed quite a few times some people playing on the table with the balls rolling all over the place and them swearing that the table didn't work at all. I sat back awhile and watched laughing as they tried to hit moving balls. Then showed them the on button. Wow what a difference. Although hitting moving balls is quite easy anyway. As far as the food goes. To most it was great but to me, (a 100% organic health fanatic, it sucked) Spent a day riding around grand Cayman on mopeds and came across a home farm to which the owner fixed me a local juice mango, banana, papaya and aloe smoothie. Like tossing chum to a shark.

There are 4 ships in the Royal Caribbean fleet which have the Bombay Billiard Rooms. go to Royalcaribbean.com. I sailed on Brilliance of the Seas and will be on Radiance of the Seas next.

I forwarded 2 letters to Royal Caribbean after my return on these items, so we will see what happens on my next cruise in a couple months.

Was I the First?

I was told when I boarded by the cruise Director that I was the first Billiard Expert lecturer on Brilliance of the Seas. I was wondering since their are 3 other ships with the Bobay Billiards Room, if anyone else has been abaord through this new program or knows of anyone who has done this. If so, what were there comments?

Thanks,
A. Oyster
