Hey guys, I am just returning to pool playing after 20 years. I was probably a C+, B- player at that time. What would be the best regimen to #1, get back in the game, and #2, actually improve. I joined the APA 9 ball league and won my first match but it was more luck than skill, plus I think the other guy may have had a beer or three. I have just been concentrating on a comfortable stroke and getting the feel for the way the tables play. Also doing the corner pocket diagonally to practice longer straight in shots. Using a Pechauer cue I bought used, tip had never been shaped. Seems OK but different than the Joss and Huebler cues I played with in the day. Lot of talk about aftermarket shafts and having a separate cue for breaking. Tables seem a little faster than 20 years ago. I understand Byrne's is the go to book on playing? Thanks in advance, John

Welcome!

I'm not one to be able to offer any sort of advice on playing, as I'm still quite the beginner at this point.

What I will tell you is be prepared for information overload! :D (in a good way.) There are so many people that will offer to help you here. So much great information. It is addictive. You've come to the right place for help and advice, on all the subjects you mentioned, and many you probably haven't even considered yet.

Best of luck getting your game back. It'll be a fun journey.
