I live in the Twin Cities and have been to Doc's many times. I have seen all their equipment and been shown how they make their cues. Here is their site. http://www.docscues.com/store/index.php?act=viewCat&catId=171

Does anyone have any info on them? Quality vs price, how do they play. etc? Thanks

There is a wait list to have a cue made there...about 3 months. I would assume that is a good thing.

Look nice in the link, not sure about the pin material, as long as they have a track record and you like them, go for it. John

For a minute there, I thought my wife had been sneaking around my shop when I'm sleeping. Her first name is Kanako, last name is Kanda. I thought maybe she combined the two and started her own cue line.

The name Kanaka comes from a gold mining creek in Calif. Keith and a few have mined gold from his claim. The original intent was to use gold dust in the cue's finish. Keith is the owner of Docs. Tim is the guy making the cues(under Keiths supervision.) Doc Rutter (Original owner of Docs Bohemian Cues)for 50 yrs. Knew all of the cue makers in the Midwest and built some cues from the supplies he gathered from Jim McDermott, Bob Rundy, Nubs Wagner of Nova cues and others. Keith has seasoned fronts, handles and had more McDermott b-shafts than imaginable. Keith and Tim have taken that to another level. Why buy a production cue when you can have a custom cue for the same low price. His custom cues come with a special 6ply Tip made from thick pigskin.

Keith has also been very lucky to have others drop their cue collections off for him to sell.Want some micarta ferrules? Keith has plenty enough for like 300 ferrules.Becky will be the woman answering the phone (They do have Dart Supplies, Pool Tables. cloth, music and Pinball Machines. Hope this helps.

These must be new

Before moving north to the land of Valley tables, I would frequent docs a ton. Keith is a pleasure to talk to and so is Tim. Both are very knowledgeable. Like Hollywood indicated a lot of it is McDermott New old stock. You cant go wrong with them.

Almost all my cue work was done there, and have purchased many products there as well. Keith even took the time to call Paul Huebler up for me and get some original bumpers from him for my collection.

I custom ordered a kanaka jump cue, and the wait got to be too long (was waiting on the first ones made.) I bought one of their Docs rebranded cues (I think made by jacoby). Is the absolute best jump cue I have ever used. It also has a new old stock McDermott B Shaft on it. He even gave me a break on the price because of waiting for the new ones (when i say wait was too long, it was like supposed to be 2 months and then after the third I bought the one I have right now. They were always up front and honest, I just couldn't wait (I get too antsy.)0

For Huebler lovers, he has a file that would blow your mind, with original invoices, pamphlets, and personal letters back and forth from him and Doc Rutter. There is even a cue that he made for Doc that is warped six ways from Sunday *sent as a joke.

I have never had a bad experience with those guys, and any repair problem I did have they went way above and beyond to make sure I was taken care of. Next time I'm in the North Metro I will be stopping in. Hope some of that westinghouse is still available when I get there.

Keith started my love for Hueblers and cant thank him enough for the suggestion to take a look at em. If you guys at Docs are trolling, Here is a humble THANK YOU for all you have done for this one pool player.

So in summary, I wouldnt hesitate to purchase anything from Docs, and I would bet that their cues are top notch, considering who they have working relationships with. I bet you are getting a great price on a fantastic custom. Good Luck to ya.

.....

I was just in there yesterday. Keith showed me around the shop. My impression was you are going to get a VERY high quality cue for a great price. There were a couple finished (already sold) cues on display that were gorgeous.

I'm pretty sure I have found the make of my next cue when I finally pull the trigger, hopefully later this year.

One of those cues in that case is mine...well, hopefully...assuming all goes as planned. Thanks for the answers everyone.
