Keno Game Rules

Rules for Keno Sixty-One Ring Game (For the Gambler)

Goal

Be the first player to reach 61 points to win the game.

Setup:

Each player antes up, placing their stake in the reserve box.

Rack the balls as you would for a standard game of pool.

How to Play:

  1. Determine the Starting Player:
    • Each player draws a pea from the pill bottle.
    • The player with the highest numbered pea starts the game.
    • Return all peas to the pill bottle after selection.
  2. Break the Balls:
    • The first player breaks by placing the cue ball in the kitchen (behind the headstring), in front of the Keno board.
  3. Scoring:
    • Players aim to land balls on the Keno board shooting from where the cue ball lands.
    • Your score for each shot = ball number + hole number.
    • (Example: If the 6-ball lands in the 10-hole, you score 16 points.)
    • Keep track of your total.
  4. Turn Rotation:
    • Players take turns shooting, accumulating points until someone reaches 61 or more.
Special Rules & Bonuses:

  • Exact Match Bonus:
    • If a player lands a ball in the hole of the same number (e.g., the 2-ball in the 2-hole), everyone pays double the ante.
  • Scratching Penalty:
    • If a player scratches, they must pay double the ante.
  • Ball Movement Rule:
    • If a shot moves an existing ball, the shooter receives credit for its new position, unless:
      • The ball lands in the same hole it started in.
      • The ball falls off the board.
  • Exact 61 Bonus:
    • If a player lands exactly on 61 points, everyone pays double.
  • Instant Win Conditions:
    • A player immediately wins if they land in:
      • The Keno hole.
      • The Double Keno hole (all players pay double).
Winning & Next Round:

  • Once a player reaches 61 points or wins instantly, the game ends.
  • The ante is replenished, and a new round begins.

Never played it/seen it.
We had a couple in the room I grew up in and money changes hands FAST when that board comes out.

I was not a fan of hand rolling onto it though, which eventually happened after I'd shoot 2 or more balls onto the board...again and again!

I preferred regular pool though, definitely.

Was popular when I first went to the Carolinas in the early 90's, didn't necessarily need a cue to play.

Strictly a gambling game and usually banned
