Kicking Academy Results

I was just wondering, did anyone actually take the time to practice and apply Deadaim's kicking systems that he was so kind to share with us a few weeks back. I practice at least 12 hrs per week and have dedicated some 24-30 hrs on 1,2,3,4 and 5 rail kicks using Deadaims systems and also some systems from Grady Mathews, Dr.Cue, Eddie Parker and Kinisters videos. Let me tell you it was well worth the effort. My kicking game has improved dramatically.

I took the time to memorize the return tracks (for 3 rail kicks) from cue ball posistions 2 to 8 and can hit balls with 3 or 4 rail kicks with a really high percentage.I can adapt to any table with some test strokes to see how the table is playing. The only negative is that my offense seems to be suffering a little lately and my main game is nine ball were runouts mean the most, but good kicking is important.

Your results(feedback) of Deadaim's systems would be interesting. Thanks a million Deadaim. RJ

ps. Do you kick by feel or use systems?

Recovery,

This is normal.

It's no secret that I talk to Jim Rempe and take lessons from him frequently, this is what he told me: "you will play a consistent game for a while then you will LEARN something OR find something WRONG (e.g. stance, stroke), during this learning process OR correction process your game WILL decline; then you will come out of it and play BETTER pool".

Thanks Deadaim,Recently I was thinking a little too much about mechanics and it was throwing me off. I don't ever think I'll be a mechanical player, although yes I agree good mechanics are important. Today I didn't think about anything and just shot playing by feel. I played great and was sinking everything in sight. My offense is back and my kicking game has improved thanks to your systems. Take care, RJ

ps. Now I need to learn how to bank. My banking sucks right now.

i've incorporated his systems into my weekly practice. of course like he said it will take a while to learn them. i took lessons from jimmy reid in which he showed me his own way of using the diamonds. it was very complicated at first, but makes more sense after you try it a few times. i'm putting what jimmy taught me, and what deadaim posted and practicing them, so that i can see which systems work best for me on certain kicks. so far with practice everything he posted works fine.

thank you for posting the kicking academy threads.

First let me also thank Deadaim for the great material. When faced with a kick it is great to have a choice of shots to take. The more kicks you know the more likely you are to kick with good results (no foul, and leave the opponent with a difficult shot). It's gems like this that make the forums in my opinion.

I have been practicing some of the systems, but not in any particular order. The kick in Part 5 Diagram 1 is one that comes in very handy, and is very straightforward to learn. I've also been trying to develop the one rail kick using the aim-point determination system shown in Part 4 Diagram 2. I find kicking one rail at balls that are in the middle of the table to be quite difficult, there is none of that slop which I find so helpful (like when the ball is close to a rail and you can hit it directly, or off the rail if you miss on the proper side).

I also appreciate the level of detail and discussion on where the diamonds are really, and the adjustments required for the ball-width etc. It seems that most other discussions of systems I have read are based on the balls being points rather than 2"+ spheres. Hey, I'm an engineer and I like it when these phenomena are pointed out. In other diamond system explanations I have read these types of corrections are left to the reader to discover :(

I tend to use the systems (numbers, imaginary lines, etc.) in my initial shot planning, and then adjust / shoot by feel. If I line something up using a system and something doesn't feel or look right I will make the adjustment to where it looks right and fire away. Of course it takes a fair bit of practise of the raw systems before the adjustments can be understood, and I still have a lot of understanding to learn. Thanks again Deadaim !

Where can Deadaim's Kicking System be found, sounds interesting

Do a search for “Academy” or “kicking academy” and you should find the entire series; it starts with an introduction, be sure to read it.

Some people swear by systems, others don’t care for them at all; but they should at least get you started in the right direction.

If you haven’t a clue how to hit a 1, 2, 3, or 4 rail kick, they should help a little.

As Rod Serling would say; “case in point”:

I just played the Parsippany stop on the Joss tour, while playing about a “7” player (for example, Robles would be about a 7 ½ ) he remarked to his “sounding board” that I hadn’t missed a kick yet. I finished 17-24 and didn’t miss a kick in five matches. By the way, jump cues are not allowed on the Joss tour.
