That’s the best of number. So “Best of 17 games” which is 9. Routinely used in snooker.

Ok thanks. I know cultures vary greatly but in all objectivity, that is just silly. When it can be explained as a 'simple race to 9' as opposed to imposing math skills on the viewer-I think it is pretty obvious how it should have evolved worldwide by now.

BTW-Is that Wang Can playing currently? I haven't seen him since Mississippi when he was 19 so i wouldn't bet either way.
