Last nite APA league.. My SL3 made an incredible shot

SL = Skill Level.. APAs way of handicapping.. It ranges from 2 to 7.. In this case it was SL3 vs SL5, hence the SL5 needs 4 games to win the match and the SL3 needs 2 games to win... Theres a chart that tells you what the race is based on your SL vs your opponent's SL.. If a SL7 plays a SL2 then its a 7/2 race... ouch!

Just curious what you would do if you were shooting the 8.

I only thought of two decent shots
START(
%Ah0Y0%BE3X5%CB5B6%DP7V0%E]0Y9%FB6B8%GB8B9%Ho8Y8%IB9C1%JC3B7
%KB9C1%LB8B8%MB4B7%NB6B5%OB9C1%PJ5X6%Qq3Y8
)END
not real safe but a chance to make the 8. Whitey is loose but not really a chance of scratching.
and
START(
%Ah0Y0%BE3X5%CB5B6%DP7V0%E]0Y9%FB6B8%GB8B9%HO6Z2%IB9C1%JC3B7
%KB9C1%LB8B8%MB4B7%NB6B5%OB9C1%Pr5W2%Qq3Y8
)END

Maybe the first shot angle gets tough and the 8 could block the shot at the 2. Also if the other guy does miss the 8 is makeable.

Just curious for another/other opinions.

Doozie already told you but the SL is simply for Skill Level.

Are you coming to Hollyweird for the Swanee Tournament??

how come you're allowed to coach your teammates? That's a foul in any leagues I've played in.

nice shot regardless

Not in APA.

A player of SL 3 or below (or is that 4 or below?) is allowed to call 2 time-outs per game to ask for coaching advice from a designated coacher.

A player higher than the above mentioned is allowed to call only 1 time-out per game for coaching advice.

Note: The player doesn't have to initiate the time-out. The coach can do that.

Are you asking about the shot in the first diagram? I'm not sure if the 2nd diagram is the result of a shot after the first diagram. Anyway, with the first shot, I'd probably kick at the 8 1-rail, but pretty soft - just hard enough to make the 8. It doesn't look like a tough ball to hit and, with it that close to the pocket, it has a good chance of going if you do hit it. I wouldn't hit it hard because I'd want to leave the 8 right in front of the hole if I missed. Obviously, in this situation you're a long shot to win the game so, if you do miss the kick on the 8, at least the 8 will be very difficult to play safe on if your opponent happens to not get out. If I were shooting the 8 in the second diagram, I'd probably just try to curl the cue ball around the 1 and 5. You have side-boards off the 2, so at least you're shooting at a big pocket. Trying to come with some sort of two railer and hoping to get safe is less probable than just making the 8 by slightly curving the cue ball, in my opinion.

I already have my entry fee to the Jay Swanson Memorial sent in. :)

It just dawned on me, but I think a lot of the usual suspects will be in Atlanta. I'm pretty sure that Tang, Dave Hemmah, Morro and maybe Oscar Dominguez will be in Atlanta and, if Oscar is going, I'm sure his dad will go with him which would mean no Ernesto either. I'm sure it'll still be a tough tournament though. There aren't a lot of slouches out there. ;)

I was actually thinking about the very first diagram. This one

START(
%Ah0Y0%BE3X5%CB5B6%DP7V0%E]0Y9%FB6B8%GB8B9%Hg0G0%IB9C1%JC3B7
%KB9C1%LB8B8%MB4B7%NB6B5%OB9C1%Ph4V7%Qq3Y8%W\2D1%X e7F5
)END

My layouts were the results of two shots I saw from the above situation.
Sorry I was not clear. Still might not be ....friends birthday tonight..pool and booze.

I am going to play the Swanee and try my best. Not sure what that will get me but I like the place. I enjoy playing in tournaments like that one or HT monthly but really dont play enough big table pool or pool in general to
make a splash in one. I did get 9-12 in the last HT monthly I played in and
there was 96 players.
I hope some of the big dogs stick around or come in for the event. There should be some good matchups to sweat.
good luck in the event

Very lucky that she didn't miss the 8 ball all together. And that she made it. And that she didn't scratch in A. But that's the APA. A weak player makes a shot and remembers it forever and even thinks he/she has a chance to beat Allison.

But you did give her a two way shot.

I most likely would go with the bank to A with the CB by 2. Another two way shot. If you make the 8 you win. If the 8 hangs up near the pocket you tie up the 1 making it pretty hard for the 5 to run out. And most 5's are not going to run the 5 balls even with BIH anyway. Keep in mind that the APA is for beginners. No matter how good they tell you they are.
