but i cant complete them. and thats frustrating.

i guess i really cant complain too much lately about the lack of having chances to run out after the break shot. i have had some chances lately, i can see the patterns and how the shots should go, but seems like lately 75% of the time, or more, i just cant get the job done. getting out of position by a ball here and there has been killing me. missing shots i should probably make has been killing me also.

guess i aint ever gonna get to that next level.

Hang in there!

Seeing a runout is only one skill with being a runout player.

Staying in line is much more important to running out than seeing the runout.

Making every shot that is well within your capabilities is the Holy Grail of pool.
Figure this one out and you'll already be at the next level.

If it were easy, it wouldn't be satisfying...

No, you never will. Nobody ever does. All the pros were born playing that good. When Efren was 2 years old he was running racks of rotation. When archer was 4 years old he ran his first 11-pack at 9-ball.

Look at it this way, the fact that you are even aware of the patterns means you're probably a better player than about 90% of the bangers out there. At this point, most of what is hurting your game is probably mental. Relax and have fun man. It's just a game.

Are you paying attention to your mistakes and then trying to correct them before you go on?

When you miss a shot you dont think you should have missed you need to set it up and shoot it again. If you miss it again adjust your aim. To do this you need to be aware of where you miss. If you are missing to the same spot then you aim probably needs to be adjusted on that shot. If your not missing in the same place then you probably need to take a look at your stroke.

When missing shape do you try to figure out what went wrong? Did you hit the OB too full or too thin causing a different speed than you were expecting? Could you have chosen a little different path giving you a larger target zone? Were you coming into the line of the zone instead of accross it (when possible).

These are some of the things you should be looking for and working on. When you make a mistake it is very important that you go back and fix it before you rack the balls and move on.

DCP, do you spend much time practicing at the table NOT doing 9-ball break-and-run attempts ? If you spend most of your time doing 9-ball break-and-run as your practice, then this becomes the goal of the practice. You focus in on making the runout. Instead you want to practice stroke, potting, and shape with a variety of shots. In this practice mode the goal becomes mastering a shot or stroke only, nothing to do with 9-ball runouts. Of course if you have mastered a wide range of shots/shape, then when you go to play 7-ball, 8-ball , 9-ball, 10-ball, 14-1 , or 1 pocket, you will be able to execute your strategy more easily. The shots and skills you practice should be applicable to most games in most instances. I guess what I'm saying is that you seem to focus on a far too game-specific measurement, rather than improvement at pool, which is unrelated to any specific game. I'd leave to entire concept of 9-ball out of your practice routines for 3 or 4 months, do something else. I do not believe that practicing as you do will lead to the next level. JMO
