I'm sure this has been covered at some point but I'm asking again. Does a regular Craftsman lathe have any place in a cue shop? I'm trying to get some beginner equipment together and have found one in a local paper for 200 dollars. Will I get any use from a lathe like this? Thanks for any input.

Hi Andy,
i used a craftsman 12X36 wood lathe for years. I used it for linen wraps, sanding and some painting,[letting the cue spin after coating it]. It worked good for me for years. I made a bunch of jigs and fixtures for it.

Go to www.Harbor Freight.com and see if you can get the same lathe for about $160.00. Not sure, but it's worth checking out.

Hey Blud
I picked up that Craftsman 12 x 36 . i'll give you a call maybe tomorrow? I'm still working on my building so I don't have it set up yet. What would be a good working height for it ?

Thanks Andy

Hi Andy,

A good height for me is, holding my hands straight out, at a 90degree bend at the elbow, works great. You don't wind up with your back hurting from bending over to see or do your work. It allows you to stand up fairly straight.

All my machines are set at 48" from the floor, to the center of the spindle hole...Works great for me. At 6'2-1/2 and with a bad and soar back, it helps.

I'm flying up north, tomorow, but you can call me on my cell phone if you like, anytime after 11:00 AM, centeral time, @ 830-796-1610....other wise, call me sunday afternoon, here at home or the shop, @ 830-232-5991.........
