league handicapping question?

i know this topic has been beat to death already but i am looking for some info. We play in a valley league with 36 teams for 24 weeks, after the 6th week the teams get split in half top being A, bottom being B. Would like to come up with a way the a players could have a little tighter system of handicapping. Sandbagging is a big problem all year long, have tried to get A to play scratch but that doesnt work either. May just have to live with it but thought someone might have some ideas.

That's a pretty open-ended question you have there. It would depend on what the goal of the league was, who your target audience is. The fact is, a league is a product. You have to decide what type of customer you want. Do you want to attract a large audience like the APA (or MacDonalds) or do you want a more select group?

This is a serious question and needs to be answered before you can consider ANY system. You have to look at the general skill-level of the league before you do anything and who you wish to attract.
 
So is the situation such that teams will sandbag like hell for the first six weeks, to get put in the bottom half group, and then play at their normal skills to go for top team in that group?

Why do they split the teams up like that anyhow? Sure it's a lot of teams for one big group, but it's not like splitting them reduces the number of matches overall.

It seems to me that the 6th-week split is the main cause of the sandbagging you describe.
 
Put a little additional money in the top half, then see who wants to compete. A little incentive might go a long way....randyg
