Leather wrap weight

Does a leather wrap add or subtract weight compared to a linen wrap?

Just curious, thank you.

IT does ...

Adds weight, Shorty. How much exactly, I don't know. I imagine
the cuemakers section could answer that better than I could.

I guess leather would be slightly heavier, but the difference IMHO, would be insignificant.

just more hot air!

It depends on the type of leather I guess. I know stack wrap leather comes out identical to linen wrap. And 3 cues that I've had done with regular leather actually came out lighter by .2 - .3 oz.

I'm not disagreeing with you, DM. I have never considered the weight change when switching from a linin to leather wrap.

.3 oz seems like a lot of weight difference. Going from 19.2 oz to 18.9 oz because you changed the wrap. That could change the way that the cue plays entirely. I would think that the linen itself didn't weigh that much.

Very Interesting.

On one cue it went from 19.2 to 19.0 with the lightest shaft which didn't matter because I liked it at 19.0 and also had additional shafts that were heavier and got it up to 19.2 or even as much as 19.5. Another cue went from 20.3 to 20.0 which was fine because I wanted it lighter. That was an ultra-thin leather.
And another cue from 19.15 to 18.95, but that was without a weight bolt so it didn't matter because I took it to 19.6 where I wanted it with the bolt.

.025" thick leather and Irish linen both weigh almost identical. Some of the exotic prints are a little heavier because they are compressed more. I don't think you will find 1/10 ounce difference in linen or leather unless the linen was finished like a Meucci or really soaked in sealer. Then the leather would be lighter. If not I would not worry about it.
