Nice time of year to be down here by the way...not that many tourists and rather comfortable weather! Just gotta dodge the snow birds.

I am not trying to be a nay-sayer but, I've noticed a catch to the IPT. They have about 6 or 7 events listed on their website. You must be a member months in advance to play in their tournaments. The membership fee is good for a lifetime but costs $899.00. This will be the downfall of the IPT because I have never met a pool player willing to pay that type of money months in advance to play in tournaments that many are questioning will ever happen. This could possibly be a way for him to take our money and run. It's a lifetime membership, who's life, the IPT's or mine. A lot of people will have to take a chance and pay the membership fee for this tour to take off. As much as I want to be optimistic, I just don't see that happening. Here's the page about their membership fee. http://www.internationalpooltour.com/ipt/join/default.asp

Again this has to be the craziest idea in the world, "this might be a way for him to take our money and run??? I'm sorry but where do you people come from? Do the math, if this is a scam it's the dumbest scam ever tried....$899.00 * 150 players comes to about $135,000 dollars, now who in there right mind would get 2 top pros, hire a top producer, pay for the arena, set up etc.... for $135,000? this a catch? lol

Do you realize he has already put out way more than that just get this idea off the ground.

You can say what you will about the guy, but to say the lifetime membership might be a way for him to steal our money is way out in left field, but don't worry, your not the first to think that up:D

Please enough about the lifetime membership, in no way is that a scam. and by the way Mike has already been to arena for the challenge match, and Kevin has already lined up a producer, camera crews etc.. etc.. It's going to happen.

If a pool player does not scrape up the dough and take a shot then they are nuts.
Its a golden opportunity. What better option do the players have right now.
The UPA schedules events on top of other promotors and tries to strong arm players while offering nothing.
At least this Tour has promise. If pool players would like a shot at a nice Pro tour then this is the time to shut up and put up.

If they do get guys to cough up the cash, it may be a whole different crop- ones that havent been burned before in pool. it will be interesting for sure.

And what if the IPT tournament dates are conflicting with other tournaments like for example the WPA, or in Europe the EPBF???
If they holding a tournament on the same date as a EPBF or WPA tournament, these organisations forbid there players to play in a tournament that is not sanctioned with there organisation....

For me and every player I have spoken to this seems to be the major concern. Sending money in advance to someone I don't even know and has no history in pool? But I would probably be willing to do that and take the chance, but wait the next tournament is an invitation only event and the rules of invitition of course are not specified? So including the current PR event in Vegas and the invitational event and all the other expenses that have been mentioned leading up to the first event that I wouldnt probably get to play in early next year he will be spending a fortune. Therefore obviously there is a concern that players that don't get invited may never get to hit a ball in anger if the whole thing collapses before next year? However I love 8 ball and have been arguing for it to be played on a 9ft and replace 9 ball for some time so may still take a punt/ I sense that most of the players are waiting to see what all the other players do, which will probably mean no one will send in an entry or hundreds will. What will happen if nobody sends in membership fee? It would be MUCH MUCH better if the first event for example was first paid first in with an updated list on the website, or at the very least explain his invite policy?

I do hope it all works out though and it gets off the ground. Maybe then I can perm quit my day job! :D

I will be sending in money for Shawn Putnam, Corey Deuel, possibly Troy Frank and myself. Chris Szutter will also be sending in his money.

I bet ..

that Tony Robles and the Rocket get in it.

Tony's probably already thinking about college
for his cute little boy ...

And what poolplayer and others wouldn't like to see
the best play for some 'big money' on TV for a change.
It would be pressure filled with some great matches,
and people would be rooting as hard as they could for
their favorite players.

hmmm...

And what is your day job Craig?

Oh by the way, I just watched you televised match yesterday for the first time after reffing it... You looked GREAT! The first two innings were solid... The 3rd inning you played very well until the 5 followed in the 6 and left you poor position on the 8... Charlie made an amazing shot on the 8 which gave him the confidence to finish you off... If it wasn't for that inning, you would have been in the finals against Mika! They kept showing your facial expressions after Charlies amazing jumps and kick shots. You didn't look down at all and seemed to really enjoy yourself out there. A natural, if you will...

I have the DVD and will try to get it to you somehow? If you want that is...

I think guys that play your level or better HAVE to take the chance. Everyone wants to act like pool players have been screwed over many many
times. Sure there has been problems but no one has came with this type of deal. If this works then you are correct that one could quit his day job.
It would be enough incentive that plays under the Pros would have something to shoot for.
All other sports started small and worked bigger. Some were lucky, some had good plans, and some had a loyal following already but ALL of them had the
top players playing even before the increases.
Pool is a different sport but I sincerely hope that this endevour works out and I think the players might have more to do with its survival than they think.

they are only taking APPLICATIONS at this time and NO money. they will INVITE 150 players out of the applications. THEN and ONLY THEN, do they collect the 899.00.

they already have 5 or so stops scheduled for next year, the LOWEST first place prize is 200,000.

900 bucks is chump change for that. players will be coming in halfway through the field and getting 15 or 20 thousand.

from what i understand, they have already budgeted 15 million for 2006 alone for this project.

until you naysayers can grow the nuts to even CLAIM to put up that kind of cash, PAY for the TV ADVERTISEMENTS, LET ALONE ACTUALLY PUT IT UP...........

then shut the fuck up, sit back, relax, enjoy the ride, and see where it goes.

the rest of us will be practicing 8 ball..........

So you're saying that only rich people or those who agree with all aspects of the IPT thing are allowed to speak on this subject ? That is a very silly notion. This is a discussion forum VAP, you know as well as anyone that people are unlikely to 'shut the fuck up', myself being only the first to not shut.

I hope it goes well. Most, if not all successful professional sports events are the result of a 'sugar daddy' driving and initially paying for the business. This could be a similar start for pool. However in most cases the investors ultimately expect a return, or at the very least that want to limit their negative cash-flow. Very few expect nor can afford to pour money in forever. This is the issue that I see - how and when does the tour become sustainable ? Will it be sustainable to the same level of prize money currently being promoted ?

Also, while we're at it (not shutting the fuck up that is), who is going to be the one to decide who's in the 150 and who's out ? How will he/she/they pick who's in and who's out ? Without a fair and open method of determining who can become a tour member (ie an initial tour-qualifier tourney), pool history suggests that some bickering and hard feelings may result. For an effective on-going tour one also needs a method of maintaining/loosing/winning a tour card to keep the membership relevant (ie the top 150 players in the world). This too needs to be defined and fair. Are these issues sorted out ? ... Jeez VAP, I just went to their web site to find my own answers and in several places it says 'open to all'. Where did you get this "150 players picked out the applications" from ????

just do a little research.........read the website, read the live chat transcripts, read the article in billiards digest.

or.........just call the numbers, email the email addresses on the website.

it doesn't say "open to all" it says "open to all IPT members".

also, if you look into their schedule for next year, several events say "199 entry for IPT members........1000 entry for non IPT members".

the answers are there............god forbid you have to look for them.

all i'm saying is that i keep reading threads on here bitching and bitching and bitching about "no money in pool" or "how do we get more money in pool".

well............this guy is bringing MONEY to pool, now all everyone wants to do is bitch about that..........instead of just supporting the idea, and seeing where it goes.

I looked through the website carefully, which should be considered the authority over magazine articles (didn't read) and chat room (the antithisis of authority). It has a 'how to join' section as follows :
------
How to Join the IPT
The International Pool Tour is open to all men and women, amateurs and professionals, anywhere in the world. Membership dues are $899.00 for a lifetime membership. IPT members pay minimal entry fees and are invited to all IPT events, with the exception of certain invitational events.
------

Nowhere on the site does it say anything about qualifying nor limiting the number of members (on the above page or any other for that mater). Again, where did you hear this 150 player limitation, and was there any mention of how the list will be managed ? Just cite your references dude, don't say 'find it yourself' ! Of course if it is from some chat room then never mind, we know how authoritative they are :D

OK, now that we have some corroberation ... who's hand and how will it distinguish amongst players ? Then, how will the list be maintained (assuming that the 150 will change over time) ? Also, do you think that this important limitation will be included in the official website which seems to say quite directly that IPT membership is open to all ? Here is some typical verbage on the tour (taken from http://internationalpooltour.com/ipt/QandA/default.asp#15).

I'd love to read more about the 150 player limit, where is this thing you refer to as 'chat' ? A Universal Resource Locator would be very handy, please.

I'm glad your interested to find facts and not just wee all over this guy before it starts, thats a smart thing and I think we should all be behind this "chance" for good things for our game.

The chat was on Billiards Digest the first one was LJJ and then Sigel and last night Kevin.

here is the link, the guy is for sure way over the top, but it's real and he's trying his best to make it work and have fun too, he loves the game:D
