Lomax Weight Bolt

Does anyone know where I can get a smaller weight bolt for my Lomax break cue?

The bolt that is in it has a little pin that goes into the head of the bolt through the rubber bumper which comes off with an allen wrench, then you have to use a screw driver to loosen and remove the weight bolt. This bolt is roughly 6 inches long and the cue is a little on the heavy side for me with the bolt as it is. You can't remove the bolt completely and replace the rubber bumper because there's nothing to hold the bumper in place once it's removed.

Should I just have the bolt cut down to where it threads in enough to hold the bumper on or can I get a smaller one of these easily?

What weight is your current bolt? Do you know how much lighter you want to go?
For the most part, weight bolts are standard bolt sizes and can be purchased at the local hardware store. In your case, the head has been drilled and tapped for the bumper screw - that is easy to reproduce.
Can you take the current bolt out, lay it down next to a 1/16's marked ruler and take a picture for us? We can usually come pretty close to sizing the bolt that way.

Have you contacted Steve, he prob has some. Brian.
 
Just cut some off the bottom. Weigh the bolt and divide the weight by how long it is and you have a pretty good idea of what each inch weighs. Then just get a hack saw and cut what off you need.

Thanks for the reply. I bought a cheap digital scale from walmart that actually seems to be pretty accurate so I was able to get the weight of the bolt, the shaft, and the butt without the weight. The bolt is 2 oz , the butt is 14.2, shaft is 3.8 so altogether 20oz. I like something around 18.5, 18.75 so I am thinking I need to cut a little less than 3/4 of the bolt to get close enough. I'm not a handy dude or good with that stuff but the math seems simple enough. I was curious about if that bolt had been drilled for that pin and that makes sense. Thanks for your help!

That's the kind of stuff we need to know. You didn't mention the length of the weight bolt (I don't think), but without any bolt, the cue must weigh right around 18oz. You said you are looking for 18-1/2 to 18-3/4. I'm having to assume the weight bolt is headless - more like a large set screw with an allen head socket that is drilled for the butt screw. If so, then cutting the bolt in half will reduce it to 1 oz and if you cut that piece in half again, you'll have 1/2 oz which is about where you think you want to be. I hate to cut long things down if there's any chance I might want it long again, so that is why I suggested finding a shorter bolt at the hardware store previously. If you don't have a way to drill and tap, then cutting the current bolt or contacting Steve Lomax for a shorter bolt is the way to go.
Also, keep in mind that as you change that much weight in the back end of the cue, it is going to move the balance point forward and that is going to make the cue feel lighter to you than the amount of weight you are removing. So take things slow, as it will be difficult to go backwards.

Taking 3/4 of the bolt length off will not lighten the cue 1.5 ounces, because the head of the bolt adds some weight. Cutting 3/4 of it off will lighten it about 1.25 ounce as my best guess. An aluminum weight bolt might be your better solution.
