Looking for a early Schon R

Hi there I'm looking for a Schon R series cue, a schon made by Bob, is there anyone that sells them online and could I even acquire one for about 2,000 CAD ($1500 USD)? Also, how do these older Schons perform vs the newer ones and what are the differences? Thanks.

Go to the Facebook group Schon Cue Collectors, join the group and then post a message regarding what you're looking for and you will get more than a few responses! I have an early 80's Schon made by Bob that has the R12 forearm and the R15 butt sleeve but it will never be for sale LOL!

With regard to how the older Schon cues play versus the newer ones, playability is very subjective and it's more the player than the cue anyway. Having said that, my opinion is the older spliced sharp pointed cues feel slightly better than the CNC made cues. However, I've had more than a few of the CNC made cues in my hands that played just as well as any other cue I've hit with. I don't think you can go wrong with any Schon cue for playability with perhaps exception to any made after Evan Clarke left Schon a few years ago.

Good luck with your search!

Do as the above poster said and you fid one.... or should since some of them pop up often lately.

As far as difference between older vs newer Schon cues, well.... mostly price tag / collectability.

There are some that say they can tell a difference in playability. Would it suprise you to know that it's almost always someone that happens to own one? I would think not.

Trust me, I like the R Series but mostly for who made it...... not playability vs the playability of today's manufactured mid-level and up cues.

Like others, he was ahead 9f his time in cue making but today's tech has caught and passed his cues for functionality.

Is it a good cue? Hell yes. Can another cue that's just as good or even better be bought for less?.... hell yes!!!!

There are lots of people that will gladly unload one if your willing to pay for the "collectors" cue.

If you end up buying a R series or another that is in line with its quality, you will not be disappointed.

Good luck with whatever you end up with. I'm sure it will be an upgrade from your current player.
