G'day all , looking for some black fibre ferrules , can't seem to find em anymore . diameter doesnt matter or length really , I cut em down anyway for use on snooker cues (9-10mm) . Got plenty of Acetal here (I'm in South Australia) but we all know what that glues like (or rather doesn't) most of the time .

Do a search for black paper based rod xx or xxx. It will be better then the old fiber ferrules that used to swell. You aslo will want it as a solid rod so you can drill the exact hole you want. You should be able to find with no problem. You want rolled not stripped. Use search words like "paper based phenolic"

cheers , did the google on "black paper based rod" but it came up blank , using first google Australia then google worldwide .

Surely there must be a supplier that still has the ordinary black fibre ones (and will ship International) .

trying google for "paper based phenolic" and getting a few hits in Oz . Can you tell me what this is like in comparison to the "linen phenolic" or "canvas phenolic" rod that is commonly used for jump tips and jump break ferrules sold by Atlas .
I've got a little of that stuff still which is great for the purposes I mentioned ,
however I've made a few snooker ferrules with it and would prefer the normal black fibres' hit and look (no canvas/linen showing) . ;)

thanks , Bazza

It is just resin and paper wrapped instead of linen. Stripped by the way is when they cut strips from a flat sheet and grind it into a dowel. The problem with that is is can split, the rolled is much stronger and better for ferrules, although much of the LBM sold is in fact stripped and is good. It also has a different look, you don't see the weave as much and it tends to stay cleaner,.

This looks like what you need and seems pretty cheap.

How many do you want? I have thousands of them from the old Brunswick factory that left Cincinnati nearly a hundred years ago.

just more hot air!

Howdy , 20 or more would be nice depending on size price etc. The last ones I got (I'm down to about 1 or 2) were 1" long and pre-drilled to 1/4" . That was a convenient size because I could put em on whole for people's USA style 12/13mm cues (white ferrules aren't popular here in Oz) or cut em short for the snooker cues I make myself ? Also hope you noticed they need to be sent to Australia .

cheers , Bazz
