Lowes or Home Depot Facing Material?

In RKC's excellent photos of his sub rail extension technique, he mentions that facing material can be purchased at Lowes or Home Depot. My question is: "What department can I find it in and what do I ask for?"'

If RKC or anyone else can answer the question it will be very much appreciated.

Speedi,
I think I PM you the other day. Read my latest entry in Diary of an Antique Brunswick.

Plumbing department.

Ask for "red rubber", or "that stuff you use to make your own gaskets".

It comes in 1/16 and 1/8" thickness, and is cheap.

yeeeep u said it>>it is cheep stuff...if possible use the right material for the right application...there is a reason Brunswick uses cotton string belt in there facings..Brunswick uses Goodyear rubber in there cushions and there facings ....its wont fall apart and can take a beating...im not telling anyone how or what to do just my opinion...

Car tires do get stiff if they sit in one place with time, weather and sun beating on it"its called dry rot".gasket stuff will "dry rot" faster in time .I can rip the gasket stuff from a hardware store by hand...good luck doin that with brunswick facings...have u used the brunswick facings or even seen em?

Thanks to all who furnished information. I went to both Lowes and Home Depot. There it was, just as you said in the plumbing department in both 1/16 and 1/8 sizes. I bought both. I also have the facing material that has the white thread in it. I will probably end up making a sandwich, with the gasket material glued to the sub rail and the strong facing material at the pocket entrance. I think that will be a good compromise.

By the way, the reason I am making my own thick facings is because the gasket material comes in a sheet about 6" x 6" . So you can cut it to fit your particular situation. The extra thick facing material sold by the billiard supply houses is too small for my subrails and cushions.

My local pool room has over 50 GC 4's. There might be 5 tables that dont have dead or rock hard rails. They are not in the sun:wink: Just hard as rocks. I am not mechanic.

I'm waiting on an email back from them to see what the hardness rating on that cowl material is. Let ya'll know when I find out unless someone already knows. I think someone said the facing material should be around 60.

BCA (WPA) rules state that the facing material should be somewhat stiffer than the cushion material but they don't give the Durometer spec for either.

olhausen accu-fast bumpers

Hi guys,
Olhausen's Accu-Fast bumpers are the "mac-daddy" in bumpers. They come in k-66 and will NEVER go bad, harden or rot. Unbelievable ball response. Just a tip for ya.
