My Gilbert 1/1 player, ebony nose-wine/double light grey/double light dusty blue veneer stack.3/8-10 pin tipped with ivory and an ivory joint. Diamond-ivory dot outlined in pure silver-peacock-"stop sign" vintage smooth leather wrap- ebony butt sleeve- alternating peacock "stop sign" peacock / small-large-small ivory dots trimmed in pure silver.traditional "bushka" rings are used throughout and a hoppe ring completes the cue. Andy used a similar inlay design on his 20th anniversary cues, and used this cue as a test piece. I like it,hope everyone else does also.
The jump break cue is also ebony on ebony same veneer stacks all white is ivory -minus the joint, the joint is the same material he uses for ferrules-ultra hard stuff. The thing breaks like a monster for sure. The case is an Arthit case made in the Ukraine-I personally dont know much about the case but it is built very well IMHO. Wish it had a JB interior but I am happy non the less

Please excuse the horrible pictures and whatnot, new to az,also the j/b cue is wrapless, the handle section is three piece-east indian rosewood burl,it originally was ordered to have an ebony handle section but even cored-and then taper cored we couldnt get it under20.5 ounces (with the shafts) so we went with the E. Indian rosewood burl and it looks amazing,it really brings out the wine colored veneers. Pictures dont do this set amy justice, they are sexy but my photography skills are under par.

Beautiful set u really should have him put a ivory joint
On break cue. I been jumping and breaking with ivory
For yrs I've had Carmelis with ivory jt and butt cap, Josey's
Diveneys. It holds up plus u feel more and trips ppl out. I'm
A pro and train 8-9 hrs day yr round and been breaking with
Ivory jointed cues and jumping for long time and love it. Plus
That's monster set, I'd have Andy put ivory joint with ivory tipped
Pin on break cue. U will like it, if u come to derby pm me I'll let u
Try mine. But nice pic up Gilbert's play great and he makes great
JB. I use mike gulyassy JBs he's my JB sponsor, we had my friend
Who got a 30+mph break and jumps like Larry nevel may break harder
Unload on my ivory jointed JBs and they can handle it plus adds value
And is fun to tell ppl u breaking with ivory ha.

I've had quite a few of Andy's cues. At one point
I had his fanciest cue he ever made big Inlayed ivory
Handle. Now its 2nd biggest he made one little nicer,
But I had his reg JB sneaky Pete looking one and it played
Just as good as his best so u deff got a monster playing cue
And JB I really like design of both. Ivory is a lot stronger than ppl
Think, Ernie from Gina cue built a ivory handle with ivory joint and
Used it as a break cue for decades to show how strong it is.

Ya ill be at the derby for sure and I knoe bout the ivory handled cue ernie used to break with, its now owned by max hoskins, its a mid-late 60's cue. I saw the cue at the ICCS in ATL this year and think max hust got the cue cuz he didnt show it at vegas ICCS in2012or in St.Louis in2012. I'll def think about getting an ivory jointbut would definitely like to smash a rack with yours or i could just put my break shaft on my playing cue.

I wonder why you don't see matching break cues very often. I guess it's not practical with all the inexpensive break cues on the market. Players would rather put more in their playing cue. I really like your two Gilbert cues and I like the matching break cue idea.

I have a Gen-1 X-breaker purple hart and mahogany, with the gen-1xbreaker tip-its pretty cool at first, the only way to describe it is to say that it almost looks like miniature steps or ledges -like its milled that way but after years of abuse the tip lost those steps and became smooth, thats why i think the cue was "hot" in the industry but when those steps wore off and the gen2 was made and then they quit making them.

Bit needless to say it wasnt that much more money than the X-breaker was. Now if I were to have put ivory inlays in it or any ivory joint on the cue with a leather wrap then the cue would be about the same price as my player cue. Iam pretty good buddies with Andy and was sitting in his booth Robb Saez at AHSBE 2010,I had just got my playing cue and was showing Robb and I just had an idea, I grabbed Andy note pad/custom order sheet and basically built my cue W/O the inlay work and a hard white material for the joint. I asked himhow much he though it would run me, he threw out a number and I went ti pay him and he told me to pay him when it was done. I am sworn to never reveal the amount with anyone buy all I can say is Andy and Vicki have always been great to deal with. I got the cue in about4and a half months from when I placed the order,I dont think it could have been done any faster. So for me it was just a little bit money money than my xbreaker was,i mean a little, very little more money for the Gilbert. Pretty easy choice for me,but I am just lucky, iam alot luckier on stuff like this than on the table thats for sure. I was actually just talking to Andy today about a thread I read about a kid taking a ebony F/S titlest one piece cue to Jacoby to have converted and the conscesence view was although jacoby is great at what he does maybe its a cue like that should be done by the best of the best. I would consider Andy qualified enough to do a project like that. I was thinking if I could get my uncle to sell me a couple of old ebony titlests I would like to see one wrapless hoppe ring w/east dice and or suits alternating black -and - red, where the veneers come down to the points in the splice have an ivory ring about one inch under the points so you can see tge full splice.you could also put big ivory spears on top of the points and alternating ones down below on the bottom of the points. The other cue would have hoppe ring, maybe one notched diamond in the butt sleave opposite of the sticker and a small ring next to the wrap that would be silver, ivory, silver then a smooth leather wrap another silver-ivory-silver ring about about one inch before the points start wohld be ideal so you can see the full/splice,maybe semi large spear points trimmed in silver on top of the points -nothing inside the points. Just a few ideas I guess. Well I guess Ineed to try to buy one or two of them off him and try to get something worked out. After seeing an ebony titlest conversion that Bill Shick did with GIANT ivory spearpoints everyway everywhere it proly had 16ofto them but it looked amazing-it wasnt overkill-I mean it had alot of ivory in a ebony TITLEST conversion but done by the right person that thing could be one of the highest end titlest conversions ever made.ever.period. why? Because BILL FREAKIN SHICK DID IT!!!!and its worth top dollar and always will be worth what you gave for it,but more than likely will be worth many times more than when it was made,if done by a top tier master cue maker. Just my random thoughts for the evening.

Great cues and post, Jake. Love seeing your playing set !! We have the first few cues that Andy and Vicki did with that "shield inlay" in the center of the butt sleeve arrangement (pics attached of one, a Hercek blank conversion). I REALLY like yours, how it looks like he lengthened out the peacocks a little and made the engravings bigger/bolder and then added the extra dots in between and then added the "shields" in the points also. Sweet cue.....new/refined classic look, imo.

Of course I agree about Andy and Titlists. He's "the guy" I always recommend going to for a conversion---his work on them is so clean. In fact, he's working on a very special one for me now. Hope to see it finished up later this year. Will post pics. :)

Ive been asked by alot of friends to get on az and finally did and iam glad i did,its pretty cool. Sean-Id like to see some pics of that conversion when its done or you can send me a pm and tell me about it. I dont want to copy anyone elses ideas and would hate if i oredered one that looked like someone elses cue,but i highly doubt Andy would let two converted cues leave the shop that looked the same unless it was a special set of 4-6cuesthe that were converted, like the Spain conversions Drexler did,i believe there was 5.one was posted here recently by a well know collector.it is a fabulous cue for sure for sure.
