McDermott G343 /w 12.50 G Shaft

I’m upgrading to a McDermott G343 G-Core from my current Players model. I don’t really care about LD - Indian shoots the arrow you know. I’m considering going with a 12.5mm diameter and keep the Navigator medium tip.

For around 500 bucks - Is this setup best for someone moving into an intermediate level?
 
Everyone is going to tell you there is no "best." It's a nice cue & I hope you like it. It's also easily found for under $500, so you may want to continue shopping.

I'll also say if I didn't have my cues made for me (which I generally do b/c I prefer wrapless) & I had $500 to spend, I'd choose a cue from Pechauer or Mezz. Nothing wrong w/ McD, just the way I'd go

Thanks for the feedback - I was able to find one for 348.00 and spent a few more bucks on some upgrades. Since this is a 2022 model - Why are practically all of the online dealers still pushing out older models and bumping up their pricing? Thank you A-Z nation and Manning Cues for helping me lock this deal in the pocket. As always - The unnamed never got the deal.
 
I have 3 McDermotts, linnen wrap, leather wrap, and no wrap, all with 12.75 gcore shafts. Their nice cues, but honestly play mostly with my Schons, and my DZ. The gcore shaft is not bad, but the only negative thing I have to say about all 3 of my Mcdermotts, is they are more rear balanced than my Schons, and I lake a more forward balanced cue. My Schons run between 18 7/8" - 19 1/4", and the Mcdermotts run about a inch less than that. I am looking at getting a 30" Jacoby Ultra shaft for my Mcdermotts, like I have for my Schons, and will probably use them more after that as the shaft I am looking at is also .2 oz heavier than the gcore and that will allow me to take a little weight off the weight bolt on the McDermott wrap less cue I want to use. All in all they are really nice cues, just not quite the weight balance of what I am used to, but hopefully that will change with the new shaft I am getting.

That’s an excellent assessment! I agree that a number of factors can control the flight err… direction of the ball/arrow. That’s where the angle of perception is in play. My mates will say “nice shot - how did you see that?” I tell them that it’s sound fundamentals and a “can do attitude.” You have to believe that given any opportunity to get on the table is an opportunity to get out - It may be boasting but don’t give me ball in hand and a chance to run out. That is it.
 
It’s sobering to be left with a choice between the willingness to learn a potentially unsettling or life-changing truth (red pill) or remain content in ignorance (blue pill) in what these online dealers (matrix) are wanting to sell me? I don’t want to wait 3 1/2 months just to have something that’s readily available here or on eBay.

I can get everything I want in a Lucasi Hydird (blue) with the shaft upgrades to build. I have a uniloc on my Predator so I’m aware of those issues. The 11.75 slim may require some work, but moving out of the matrix involves freeing the mind. More $$$ and longer wait times will not help this Indian. Hopefully the online sellers will read this and remember that good service will overcome a bad encounter. All for less than what you guys want

Hey - What’s up PROGEAR? I’m a bit leery of buying a customized cue from a dealer that will try and hook me on what is straight. Well - I have a decent offer on a new Lucasi LHC17 (438.00) from an outfit called PROGEAR. Has anyone heard or purchase from them before? I’ve searched all over the Matrix - Not taking the blue pill 💊 - “Shoot Pool!”
 
Update - After reaching out to a few well known online dealers, waiting 4-12 weeks to take a shaft down to 12mm is too long of a wait for a mid-level cue. All of them cite production delays and supply chain issues. Look - I wanted a quality cue made in the USA. I understand that genuine is genuine and hopefully the cuemaker forum may have some comments.

I'm super happy with my Viking. Most of the people I play with aren't. I own some Schmelkes, too. Great shooting cues but I haven't tried their Kielwood low deflection shafts so I can't say anything about them. I use a Schmelke Sneaky Pete as a break cue. The other day I left it near the rack and a guy thought it was a house cue. I didn't realize it till my next break. I let him use it for the rest of the night and he said it was the smoothest shooting cue he ever used and didn't lose all night. Not bad for a $115 dollar cue!
