Mcworter or Owens

McWorter.

McWorter's designs and cues are recognizable. He's tier 1 guy and I almost bought one of his iconic Origami cue. Should be in the hall of fame if he isn't already.

Owens, while a good builder, is unrecognizable. He will build anything you want, a true custom builder. So all his cues are someone else's design. Makes him one of the best too in my opinion. He's often challenged to make 100's of different designs, styles and spec.

Think Bob Owen can take a design, and make it a Cue. More latitude.

McWorter make a line of designs he has been doing for ever.
So technically, Bob Owen is a custom cue maker and McWorter is a production cue maker, although his production cue is more expensive than some custom builders...

Yes and that's the goal in my opinion.

McWorter's cues are so good they look like it was done out of a machine. That's how great they are. If seen in person you wouldn't believe it was just one guy making them.

those terms don't do justice to anyone.
Both are high end cue maker but when you see a McWorter, you know it's a McWorter. There are other cue makers with their own recognizable style.
And yes, it was easier to spot them before the massive knockoff and copycats industry took over

Torpedoes the ship is kinda your specialty.
I have to disagree here. I have criticized CC for some short posts saying cue doesn’t matter, why spend that much etc…. I generally don’t like those posts. Here, however, the post points out the difficulty of the question and the subjective nature of it. He also points out differences between the makers. So I think these posts are different from some I took issue with.

The bagel analogy is apt. Here you need someone who had had each kind of cue opine on how they hit. Some objective parameters to comment on, but also a lot of subjective impressions. I can’t comment because I have never hit either of them but like the looks of both generally speaking.

Haven’t had tons of bagels in NY. Best I have personally had is in a Chicago suburb. Prove me wrong by buying me bagels or sending me nice cues. 😎

your right, his designs , while technically proficient , a marvel in construction
dont do much for the eye

i dont care how hard it was to do this, or how original.
just doesnt make me want to shell out 5k+ for it

That's totally understandable and I agree with you.

I've always said we can all afford 5k cues but its whether we want to or not.

Bob Owens cues look good to me but mcworter just won cuemaker of year. Which will hold value best. Which plays best?
I'd say Bob Owens in more of a traditional cue builder. Very classic designs and great players. I'd say Jerry McWorter is less traditional and more artsy and custom in his designs. He has made some really creatively designed cues. I like his Silver Smoke cue.
