Is there a reasonably priced, quality measles ball? Not sure why each dot on an Aramith costs $10. Thanks.
That's what you're paying for, the known quality. A buddy of mine who is the LO of the local BCA league told me a player of his bought 6 new measle balls for the league for $45. He was suspect. He brought them over and we compared them to a few of the measle balls I have and while they look the part, the weight was waaaay off. Cue balls should weight the same as the object balls. Depending on age, phenolic object balls weigh between 166-169/170 grams. These balls weighed 172+ grams. I asked him how they played matched up with the older Aramith Super Pro sets. He said they played crappy. Tons of follow and near impossible to draw. At that weight, I kinda figured. IMO, you get what you pay for. There's no telling what kind of resin these knockoffs were made from.Is there a reasonably priced, quality measles ball? Not sure why each dot on an Aramith costs $10. Thanks.
The el cheapo measel knockoffs are almost all made from polyester resin. They play ok but not like a good phenolic. Just get a good Aramith minus the dots. You know, I thought it looked small but assumed it was an optical illusion from the markings. I see it's sold now as an Aramith ball so I presumed it was normal quality/size/weight. Did it used to not be an Aramith? The Rempe training ball? It’s way lighter than a CB should be. Mine, in like new condition, is 162 grams. Also measures a touch smaller diameter than 2.25”.
A quality CB is a good investment.
I think it's always been Aramith. Mine's an Aramith. Everyone I've seen who weighed theirs here on the forum says it's too light. You know, I thought it looked small but assumed it was an optical illusion from the markings.
