I was very sad to learn that one of the true greats of American pool is no longer with us. I saw Larry Hubbard play many times, and have nothing but respect for him. The first time I saw him play was at a tournament in Burlington, Iowa. I saw him give Danny Jones the 8 ball in the practice room at the hotel........and I will never forget the break he had. He was probably the first American player to use the side rail break on a nine ball rack. This was back in 1975 or 1976. It was amazing to watch. Besides that, he was just a good all around player.....and a great straight pool player. I remember seeing him on the road many years after that, and you could see the toll that lifestyle had taken. He was, though, a classy guy and a fierce competitor. My condolences to his family and friends.
