Say No to Drugs!
Before the tournament, try not to set any expectations. Go in with a clear mind and try to focus on playing well, not winning or losing. Focus on each shot. If you get nervous, as you may, deal with the mental aspect. Remind yourself why you are there and what your goals are. If your goal is to win and you're losing, it will cause you to play worse, because you are focusing on the end result. Instead, if your goal is to play well, and you put all your focus into that, even if you lose, you can be satisfied with the way you have played, even if you don't win.
I hope that makes sense...I play alot of tournaments and always try to keep that mindset. I find when I focus on winning, I tend to play worse, because my focus is on the score instead of how I am playing. If I take my time and focus on playing well, I generally do well in the event.
I don't think that it the answer. One thing that the book I recommended talks about is normally a player will play worse if they have an inflated idea of their game and reality doesn't match. They tend to crumble in tournaments because of others may think they play bad.salam4 said:thanks for all the great responses, one thing i had a question about which was brought up to me by a non pool player, i told her that ill do fine as long as i dont get nervous, shes like why dont you take valium. i looked everything up and maybe i just have too much anxiety, i really only find myself playing bad when i am afraid to play bad and have others think that i am bad, could this be a possible solution?
