Only thing I could come up with is, a merry widow to the rest of the world is, a short, strapless corset with half-cups for the breasts and long garters. I'm thinking, the merry widow cue, like the merry widow corset, has very little up top. So, I don't really know, but I do know I have seen some really cool ones.

Maybe since it was originally a simple and plain inexpensive cue, a wife would be content with the idea that though she's lost her husband to a life of pool, he didn't blow all the money on a cue.
