Meucci Black Dot, Red Dot, or Original Shaft

About 7 Years ago I exclusively played with a Meucci cue and was perhaps played some of the finest pool that I ever played. I felt that their product was superior to any other cue made due to the fact that their "whippy" shaft allowed players to do more with the cueball than most cues. When the red dot came along I made the transition because my cue was becoming older and worn. However, I disliked it. In fact, I completely quit playing with a Meucci cue all together because I felt their shaft was an inferior product compared to those made previously by Meucci. My question is has anyone played with the new black dot shafts? Are they better than the red dots or about the same. Like I said I don't even play with a Meucci now but I am just curious as to how everyone else feels about their new shaft.

Sorry I have not tried Meucci's black dot much, but I have the Red dot. It seems to move the ball around very nicely with little effort. I was shooting with a Predator a couple months back but the Meucci just give loads and loads of spin.

The only complaint I have is that the Wood that Meucci use in their shafts... My shaft is full of blemishes and even a couple knots in the shaft just a few inches from the fuelle in my shaft. I tired to get Meucci to make another shaft but they sent a shaft that had even more blemishes. It shoots fine but can be annoying seeing everyone else's $300.00 Viking or Mcdermott have superior beutifull shafts. What happened to their quality control?

Thats my point. I think quality control has went down terribly. I even had a Meucci make me one without the red dot shafts. It still didnt hit like the original. I love the old whippy shafts. For the last year and a half I have been playin with Bill McDaniel cues. They are pretty whippy. I love the way that they play. It hits far superior than any other product that I have tried. I have a Preditor, Schon, Joss, Phillippi, and Meucci. The McDaniel just lets me do more with the cueball. I guess thats why that Varner, San Souci, Corr, and Rodney Morris all played with McDaniels before getting endorsements with cue companies.

Personally, I like the Black Dot shaft. I have 6 of them at varying weights, from 4.1 oz to 4.8 oz. I also have a red dot that I absolutely can't stand, and an Original from about 1982, but I've heard others say that they like the red dot. The Black dot is a laminated shaft, but it doesn't feel anything like a Predator, and if it gets cold enough this winter I'll probably start a fire with mine. Like you, I also have a Joss with 2 shafts, a Schon, and numerous other cues. The laminated Black dot does come out heavier in total weight most of the time, so if you like a forward balanced cue it will help. My cue of choice most of the time is the Meucci with the Black dot, but everybody's feel and touch is different. I also have some very high end custom cues that I like, but I don't take them out to be stolen or abused by curious dimwits. I'd say give a black dot a try, I'll think you'll like them, although not as whippy as you might like, but surely not poles.
