Meucci ferrule repair...

Just a quick question/thought...

A friend of mine plays with a Meucci (I know, sad) and the rubber tree now has a vibration when hitting off center and we switched the shaft and butt with another Meucci (that place was crawling with 'em) and was sure it wasn't in the butt, and I told him I could replace the ferrule, but wanted some insight on whether I should just sleeve the new one on, or thread it on... does anybody have any experiences with this... and as always, any help is appreciated...

Thanks

Jon

If you sleeve it, it'll probably break again. Moochi's tenon is thicker than the usual 5/6 18 tenon. Replace it with a capped and threaded ivorine or melamine or Ivor-X ( the best imo) so it lasts almost forever. But, if he THINKS a non-capped unthreaded Mary Kay lipstick tubing ferrule hits better, do it anyway but don't guarantee it.

First make sure it is not a red dot shaft. Only Meucci has them. They won't give it up either. If it is a regular shaft better to put a threaded ferrule such as Ivorine III. That is the softer of the ones Joseph cues mentioned but explain to the customer it will change the hit of the cue, making it a more solid hit but also adding deflection. Atleast give him or her the options before you do any thing.

Yes, it is a red dot (ugh), Chris Hightower sells Meucci replacement ferrules, I don't know if they are the same, but that and a 1" Ivorine, LBM or aegis are his options, as that is all I have at the moment, and also... do you think the tennon could be cracked??? We discussed this scenario and he didn't like it lol, he would rather just send it to Meucci to get a new shaft instead of drilling and gluing a tennon in, or shortening the shaft. He breaks with it (and has a good solid, hard break amazingly) and I let him know that that could be the case (cracked tennon). Opinions???

Thanks Mr. Webb and Joseph,

Jon

P.S. What is the best way to put on a micarta ferrule??? And how would you compare it to an Ivorine/aegis/LBM???
