Mezz Ferrule Repair

I have a shaft come to me with a demolished ferrule, completely smashed.

I am planning on replacing it with Tomahawk.

There is approximately a 1/8" gap between the end of the cue and the bottom of the cap of the ferrule.

Should I do it this way or have the ferrule sit on the end of the cue?

I've replaced many Mezz ferrules and I always eliminate the gap

Shouldn't be a gap there. You can get a original ferrule from Mezz if you like, but Tomahawk will work fine as areplacement.

Not a cue maker, but I've replaced 8 ferrules. I would never want a gap. I'd rather feel the hit either directly on wood under the tip or a capped ferrule with no gap. I wonder if the gap contributed to the damaged ferrule? With the ferrule taking all the impact in the gap section, surely that would create a weak spot?
