Micarta ferrules

Lew Stone a local cuemaker has a big slab of it. I'll ask him if he'll make some ferrules.

A friend of mine runs Utah Plastic Fabrications and I occasionally do odd jobs for him. He knows a lot of people who worked for GE Polymers. I'll ask him if he can dig up some yellow micarta.

If you see real micarta up for auction, You will know, because It will get alot of bids more then likely, and probably sell for more then a ivory ferrule. They are more sought after then ivory, and I can see why. Funny thing, but I just did finish a restore job & moori tip on an old schon shaft, and after all that time the micarta is still in good shape. It was nasty, and took some work, but was able to clean the ferrule up like new without sanding. It is yellowish in color, kind of like an real yellowed ivory or MP ivory, but maybe with a slightly darker/yellow tint to It. The material was free of defects though, so looked good all shined up & looking new again. They seem like good ferrules to me, they play well, hold up nicely, polish well, and most I see don't swell or shrink up like some materials, so you don't get as many issues where the ferrule meets the wood on the shaft. Shame I can't find a deal on some or I would use It in My cues:( :D . You would not believe how many people I have met that had a old schon with the micarta, and swore up and down they thought It was ivory, due to the color I'm guessing. Even after I told them they were actually worth more, I think some still did'nt believe me. The easiest way I can tell usually, is by the grain lines in the ivory, the Micarta usually does'nt have those unless maybe It was from a bad batch or something. Most I've worked on were pretty consistent looking in texture. The ivory also seems to yellow in a slighty different tone to me, so I can usually tell before even looking up close at one.
