Middle of the Table Break

Does anyone break from the middle of the table anymore when playing 9-ball? I have found that I control the cue ball much better when breaking from the diamond on either side of the center diamond. I may not make a ball on the break as often as I do when breaking from the side rail, but it is not as significant as the position I get when I make balls on the break. Also, I rarely scratch when breaking from the center of the table. If I do scratch, it is because an object ball kisses the cue into the pocket. I do not see many of the pros breaking from the center of the table these days, but then again, I am not using the Sardo rack either.

Center o' the table is always an option: some tables break better from there and if you don't try you'll never know.

Sometimes, when I am particularly itchy (scratchin too much on the snap), I will look at the line from front ball to back ball and place CB on the same line. Then, when breaking, I will aim at the back ball. It helps to ensure a full-on hit.

I've seen Slivka use this break too. He also changes it up as far as how the CB is hit, sometimes center-ball, sometimes a force-draw that'll bring the CB up to the top rail & back down.

I think you gotta explore your options...
