Miguel's lag

Miguel Torres first match from yesterday was taped, go back and watch the lag. Miguel lost the lag by 2 diamonds yet he got the break..... can anyone explain ??

I tried watching this replay but had a very bad connection

Two options:

He either didn't lose the lag (for example because the other player's ball hit the
long rail), but more likely the winner of the lag chose to let Miguel break. Winning
the lag gives you the choice, not the break.

EDIT: Yikes, just noticed this is a post in the Carom section....not sure if the same
rules regarding the lag apply there.

Nady chose not to break, and in carom games hitting the long cushion on the lag is permitted.
