I have a 7x14 and use it often for cue work. I added pieces of dove tail 30"+ out the front and rear to hold a steady rest for shaft work and it does great. Built several carbon shafts and wood shafts along with ring work, tips, ferrell's etc.
I'm talking the 7x14 metal lathes.
Unless you have another use for it, or found a really good deal, I think you would be better off spending a little more to get something with a large bore headstock so you can do basic joint work. But it's also fun to turn little useless metal (and wood) things on a lathe.
Would you mind posting some pictures. Would like to see your set up.

A few people wanted to know if I could sell them one and how much. So I wasnt doing anything yesterday and made one up Its about 22 inches long and has a 16 inch travel You can put it behind a taig or HF mini,just figure on the height you need...

extensions are made from 8020 long time ago
all the aluminum came from 8020 on ebay, they tend to have cutoffs they sell for a good price. The slide and delrin guides also can from there
l used to buy from 8020 garage sale real cheap ,but l think it is no more
8020.net is a good source of extrusion. As is open builds.
