Modifying a bumper pool table

I am acquiring an old bumper pool table from my childhood.

I don’t really like bumper pool, and I’d like to modify the table and turn it into some other monstrosity.

I want to start by removing the bumpers and maybe make a weird mini version of a one pocket table. Or fill all holes and make a tiny square carom table.

Any ideas on a filler for slate? Sanded epoxy like dp420 or similar?

my vote….leave it alone other than re-cloth it, maybe….it’s not a bad game…at times, there’s been big action in it……
I‘ve watched a European championship….lot of skill.

Please don't kill it....renew your interest. I played this morning. I'm learning how to manage/trap. I'm not familiar with strategy...but came up with a 3 rail bank for game. It's challenging and fun. SAVE BUMPERPOOL !!

We had a bumper pool table at my pool hall. Van Boening and Thorpe had never played it and were there for a tournament. They went at it for hours. It's an awesome game.

Players in my room gambled at it for awhile.

Eventually I swapped it for a Chinese 8 ball table.

Ok, I will give it a chance.

What is the rebound rule of thumb with the round bumpers? Something close to tangent line, or twice the angle?

I don’t think I’ve ever seen a commercial one. Lol it’s always some cheap wobbly thing someone bought at sears lol

That's an Great American table. Rock solid. New 2800. I got it for like 800 in perfect shape. We put 860 Simonis on it. Played fantastic.

The first time I ever picked up a cue stick, was in 1963. There was a bumper pool table at the YMCA, in Charlotte, NC. I was 6, and going to summer camp. I saw guys playing every day, and when there was an opening at the table, I gave it a try. I lost.

But I was hooked, and that's how I ended up here.

Keep it a bumper pool table. At our local pool hall there is a coin op bumper table that we end up playing on for at lest an hour or two after every session of regular pool. The strategy is fun.
