Mosconi Cup Game Choice

They always do 9 ball for the Mosconi Cup. Why not change it up to straight pool, 8-ball, or one pocket. Or have the games rotate between matches. I personally think this would make it more challenging and entertaining to watch. It also adds more strategy to the event as well. As a pool community what would you rather watch. Everyone playing 9-ball or rotated games between matches?

It has always been a nine ball tournament. Should they introduce other games into the tournament? Perhaps. But I feel there should be different tournaments for different disciplines.

Party Poker wants ratings. No one will watch straight pool or one pocket. 8 ball won't cut it, either. 10 ball would be the only option, if there was to be a game change.

the brits aren't about changing things...hence why snooker is as massive as it is over there. it's been the same forever. they get their ratings because everyone that tunes into the mosconi cup knows exactly what they're gonna get. they want fast paced, high excitement matches. not sure you'd get that from one pocket or straight pool (i love both games, but they're not the best to watch if you're not someone that's played them). i'd love to see a multi-discipline match like the mosconi cup, though. maybe at the derby and do banks, 10 ball, and one pocket. just hold it one day as an exhibition for the fans there.

Your right!

Theres no need to change the format, we just need more MONEY in the game, just enough for the top 75-100 players in the world to make a real living.., say 100k a year?

Yeah...with the amount of travel involved i'd say that's the sort of money it would take. I don't think there is a need to change the format either. I enjoyed watching last years matches and would have enjoyed it more had our boys showed up to play.

I like the Word Team format that Matchroom also just put on last month. They have 8, 9, and 10-ball, singles and doubles.
