Mosconi & Hall Cues ...help ID

Hi there... I'm new to this board and wanted to post a couple of cues for identification. Hope it's appropriate enough for this thread.

My father passed away a couple months ago and he left quite a cue collection. Most of them I have been able to identify through web searches.... these two cues I could use some expert help on:

The first one I know he was super proud of... it's a Meucci Buddy Hall with the original suede or pigskin case. I have been trying to find out when this cue may have been created.

The second cue, I have no clue on and would like any guesses on who made it.... it looks like a sneaky pete with a metal joint and Mosconi's Signature on it (not actual sig). I know Mosconi is a legend, but is this a good cue, or is it a company trying to profit from his name?

Any help would be greatly appreciated!

Mosconi Cue

Ongo:

For many years Brunswick owned the rights to the Willie Mosconi name & signature facsimile. He kind of took up where Willie Hoppe left off. However, in the 70's B'wick over-diversified, They outsourced a lot of production, etc. Apparently the licensing agreement between Mosconi and Brunswick expired and B'wick wasn't in a position to renew. Ajay (a large importer) bought the rights to the name and thus started a flood of import products bearing Willie's name & signature. Yours is one of these imports. Ajay must have used several Taiwanese manufacturers because the style and quality of the Mosconi branded cues was wide ranging. Yours is certainly one of the better ones. The real POS's are the ones with the pin-in-shaft type joint, with the integral brass pilot at the base of the pin. These usually just used a clear sticker, with Mosconi's sig. facsimile on it. A lot of Mosconi products were sold through mass merchandisers like Kmart. Can't blame Willie, I'm sure the agreement was quite lucrative and pool players - even those of Willie's caliber - weren't exactly raking in the dough. Hope this helps.

Adios,

Pizza Bob

Pizza Bob... thanks a bunch for the input! I had my suspicions on the Mosconi cue.... my father had many many cues. Thanks for the backstory on the Brunswick to Ajay manufacturing... very insightful.

Hopefully someone will be able to date the Buddy Hall.

I can tell you that I really like that case! Sorry no info on it or the cues though. Good luck.

Buddys' stuff

The case that Buddys cue is in, was made (or had been made by Meucci ) approx. 1975/1977. There were quite a few around about that time. Is the cover fuzzy or smoothe? I would assume the cue is about the same years.

ajrack... sorry, I was out of town for a couple of weeks, but thanks for that bit of info.

The case is fuzzy. So I suppose there were both options for the case. Interesting.

The first cue is a Meucci 84-7. The production line should have the old stamp logo of Meucci with the shaft going through the name. This one is special coz it has buddy hall. I had one just like it. So its a 1984 Meucci I guess. The Hall of Fame Series also carried that same design but with the new Meucci logo and new rubber bumper. This cue pictured here still had the old round bumper. ;)

uddy hall rifleman model,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,i keep it in storage

nice old cue

Thanks for the input. I can assume then that the pair (Meucci cue & case) were not originally together, and that the Buddy Hall came later.
