This is in responce to Joseph cues post about balsa wood used in cues.

Sir, your mistaken about the veneers in cues being made of balsa wood.

You and your friend, sir, maybe refering to "TAY WOOD"veneers which is offten used in veneered cues. This is a soft wood. It's not stable enough for veneers to be used in my cues. Some cuemakers will use whatever they can get, and in some cases are told the wood is such and such when it's not what it was said to be, or should be. They just don't know where to purchase goods.

I'll be happy to supply you with a company who sells quality veneers, if you like?

Balsa wood is not used for veneers, period. Like Joe and bruin70, both said, it's most likely sycamore, not balsa.

I have been around a long time and have never seen balsa wood used in any cues, much less in the Bushka's you refered to, Joseph

I also have never seen any of them "crack". Perhaps you could send us a picture so we could see just what your refering to?

I teach cuemaking at all "levels" and perhaps you two should consider coming to my shop and take a course on cuemaking, and learn about all types of woods, veneers and what glues you should use for all types of woods.?
If so give me a call. 830-232-5991
thanks

Thank you Blud. My bad.
My friend already orders veneers from Wood River but hasn't used them at all. He's too busy making his player's cues without points.
