multiple weapons (jump)

Hello All.

As a newbie to the site I must show respect to your longtimers. After that I want to start a discussion about something in pool that I do and do not know how people take it in the real world.

I use a predator air with a dart stroke for close and high jumps and to avoid jumping off the table in close quarters. I then utilize a poison vx 2.9 jump break for the rest with the simple normal just jacked up stroke to get that accuracy that is not around when utilizing the predator air.

2 questions for the experienced players on this forum. Does anyone else do this? and, is this legal in real tournaments?

Thanks

yes, and yes. but i use a custom jump break for every thing, even shooting sometimes. my J/B is a Keith custom. ways 15.2 oz put together. the break is very far back on the but so that my "jump" cue is longer than the average jump cue by about 6" or so.

I LOVE to jump, just gets more fun when the balls leave the cloth!

Long jumps I do with my break cue, short jumps I do with my Lucasi.

The only legal hurdle is the limitation of 3 cue sticks max. So, if you use 2 jump cues, you can't use your break cue (unles syou use your break cue as your play cue)

Is that in one game, one match, or one tournament? and what skill level does that rule apply, does it apply generally on the professional scene?

Many people actually are coming around to that way off thinking. I use a 40" Jumper for close quarters darts and a longer jump cue for stroke jumps when I have more room to get up and down. I have not heard of the 3 cue rule that Mitch is talking about unless it is for league play.

Gulyassy actually had matched sets that had the break cue, short jump, long jump cues packaged together for sale at the Open. So the answer is a definite yes and yes and yes in my experience....

I'd like to see jump cues banned!

Talk to whoever runs your senior center and it might just happen for you. For the rest of us they are here to stay. You may want to send a letter to the PGA about those new fangled sand wedges while you are at it =)

Since this is the internet and people can't always sense tone.. This was in jest... Well mostly LOL

The rule I've seen is a maximum of three COMPLETE cues. When Billiards Digest used to have the "You Make The Call" section, I remember reading one scenario about the three cue rule. The question was that Player A brings three butts and X number of shafts. Player B calls a foul for Player A having too many cues.
The correct ruling (and I don't recall the league or tour, maybe MitchAlsup can tell us his league) was that it WAS legal, because there were only three complete cues.

You're not penalized for having a backup shaft. I would guess if you can figure out a combination of butts and shaft that will conform to that rule, you'd be all right.

Edit : The big stink that Player B was making above was that Player A was switching shafts during play for some reason or another. I can't remember why, but I don't think it was because a tip came off or something.

Thanks for the input...it seems the consensus is that I can tell my buddies it is usually legal and dont have to have that irking in the back of my mind as being unsportsmanlike

Anyone else with experience feel free to input more! thanks
