My 1980 Tim Scruggs with ivory stars!!!
Here we have my baby... my 1980 Tim Scruggs cue that I recently had refininshed by Tim. It has four points with four veneers (black, green, green, and red) New ivory spearheads were added to the tips of the points because the ponits suprisingly did not extend evenly. This corrected the problem and made this cue even more brilliant to look at in my opinion. All the white on the cue is ivory except for the buttcap which is a newer style that he put on. I have 3 shafts for this baby... two original 12.25 with ivory ferrule and 12.50mm with linnen, and a brand new 12.50mm thats aegis I think ( I still don't know the difference), you can tell from the pictures. As far as I know and from what Tim told me, this is the only cue he ever remembered making that had actual 5 point stars.
There is also a interesting story behind this cue which was told to me by Tim over a couple conversations we had. I will truncate this as best as possible cause it may be boring and not interesting... anyway.
First let me start by saying I bought this cue from a friend of mine who's father bought it for him when he was a boy. His father has since passed away and he doesn't remember exactly where his father purchased it from... Tim seems to think that he made this cue for Grady Matthews back in the day. He remembers being asked by Grady to make a higher end cue and he thinks this was the one intended for him. He never got around to getting a hold of Grady to give it to him and eventually ended up selling this and 5 other higher end cues to Bob Huddelston, a pool hall owner in St. Luis. I have since contacted the family to see if they recognize the cue but have not heard a definitive answer back yet. It's obviously hard to prove any of this and in the end it's not really relevant but as Tim said to me "Sometimes the story behind the cue is more interesting than the cue itself"... I tend to agree!
I only play with TS cues and I can say for certain this is the best hitting cue I've ever used and I play with it every day. Hope you enjoyed my little story and the pictures.
Btw, how are people posting images to see as soon as you open a thread, intead of attaching an image like I have here?
Cheers,
Jim
