Hey Zim Looks good........Did you do all the work on your cuesmith lathe??

Yes! Everything was done on my CueSmith lathe, except the black/brown phenolic trim rings (bought them). I plan to install the butt rings and cap tonight and turn them down this weekend.

Deadstroke- I got it and checked it out! They look great and seem to be priced about right without seeing them. I'll probably get a few of them. Have you used them before?

Thanks,
Zim

0104 Cue is Complete...

I just finished my first cue last night. I didn't put a finish on it yet, I just used some shaft sealer on the entire cue and it looks pretty good, IMO. I still need to weigh it, but feels about 19-19.5. It has a few minor imperfections, but nothing I can't avoid next time.

Thanks,
Zim

Yes i have, there are some here in my town some poeple are playing with. I jus started on a shooting cue . I'll get my friends and show what can be done with them.. :D

It's Rosewood and cocabola joint/butt cap. It was cut from a used house cue! I've got a few more that I'm currently working on. I took it to the MidWest Expo and got some "professional constructive criticism" on it. Overall, I'm happy with the finished product, considering it's my first and I've only been using a lathe for 4 months!

It works well for me! I normally don't break with my playing cue, but do on occassion. There are better break cues on the market, but yes, it breaks fine.

Well, I've received some feedback on my 1st cue from Blud, Aaron Dominiak, Brandon Jacoby, John Barton, Diviney, Ray Schuler, and a few other players while at the MidWest Expo!
Things to change/add:
1) shaft taper- currently a little stiff
2) counter sink joint pin holes- easier to reface and snugger fit.
3) super glue finish, unless I wanted to buy the spray equipment or pay someone to add a finish (all I had was a sealer on it)
4) hits well
5) EXCELLENT cue for the first time and only using a lathe for 4 months, build more!!
Thanks to all for the constructive criticism!
I'm going to build a few more sneaky petes from butt blanks, not house cues this time. Should start on them early November, complete by Christmas hopefully.

Congrats on the first one. I still have the first cue I ever made. I would not even think about selling it.

If you go the super glue route then be sure to spend a little extra and get a premium odorless one.

Has anyone ever used a clear coat finish from DEFT? My father is a wood worker and has used it as a clear coat and suggested it. I applied it to my jump cue by rubbing it on and it was completed about 4 weeks ago. It has held up after much use. I'm getting ready to pour it into a smal spray bottle and try applying it that way and see if it's easier or cosmetically better. The current finish is fine, just needs some buffing, plus the wood had a few swirl marks from the sand paper that I didn't get out completely.

Thanks,
Zim
