Well, I came across this cue yesterday. It belonged a good pal "Spanish Freddy". Freddy is a superb 9 ball and one pocket player in the VA area, but he is somewhat anonymous. He practices and gambles a little bit in our local pool room, but makes his big scores in the latino bars getting into games that only Freddy can get into and out of with the cash - safely. He has been playing probably 40 years and this was his first cue. This cue has seen a lot of action and some great play throughout the years.
I'm sure some of you have heard of "Pooky"....a road warrior gambler, who there have been posts about on here before. Freddy taught Pooky how to play 9 ball (always taking Pook's money) when he was a little tot.
I believe it is a Third Catalog, Model 8 - but maybe our own respected "Palmer Collector" can verify this. It has a slight wobble in the butt, and the shaft has a small crack in the wood near the ferrule. The wrap is original and extremely rough...but gosh this cue has a lot of character. I was thinking about having it refinished and re-wrapped..but I just don't know. If I keep it, I'm going to go back and get a picture of Freddy playing with it (or maybe an old picture of Freddy playing with it way back in the day if he has any).
All in all, Freddy was verify happy with the trade but I told him that I think I definitely got the better end of the deal. Either way, we were both very happy. I'm looking forward to learning anything I can about this cue. Thanks!
