My First TAR PPV Shane vs Alex

I bought the Shane vs Alex PPV from TAR and just wanted to tell anyone that hasn't bought one yet what I thought about it.

1. Feed - never went down, smooth sailing the whole way. (hotel internet reset caused it to be down for 6 minutes, nothing that TAR could have done to stop that)

2. Commentary - Excellent throughout. Nothing like the free feed, more professional and very enjoyable IMO

3. Price versus product - Let's just say that we got way more than what we paid for. I paid for 1 set to 25 between to Champions and got to watch 2 sets to 25... Big Thanks to TAR for that.

4. Quality of picture - Sub par based on reading other peoples description. I was expecting close to DVD quality. It was about the same as the free feed.
Also the inability to resize the the picture from anything but a fuzzy full screen or the tiny web page default size.



Overall I was pleased with the product and it was well worth the $15 I spent.
Hopefully TAR will get enough business to continue bringing us Top pros playing for the cash. It seems like everyone here loves what they are doing.
 
1680 x 1050 is my normal screen resolution for those who may ask.

I dropped it all the way down to 800 x 600 to make a midsized picture out of the default small screen size...
 
Yes GREAT VALUE. Three sets (or even one set) for $15.00 was well worth the $. I to wished I could resize the screen (like you could with the free feed) but all in all it was fabulous. I just hope that over time the guys are able to strike a good balance of value to production to make it worth while for both TAR and pool playing/sweating fans.

Everyone who watched the free version should at least make a token $10.00 contribution to the guys. This stuff costs money and without our support well be back to watching trick ball magic from 2004 on ESPN.

Tell me you wouldn't rather watch SVB and Alex play for real cash or Frost lipping off Joyner for some big money 1 pocket over some slightly glitzier IPT "challenge match". Hell I'd rather listen to Boyes and the Brits sing on the net than that (I love those two guys). Next time they have a beer and pool match my money is on those boys. Something tells me those guys can play poll absolutely polluted on beer.

I agree Nick, pool on ESPN has lost me as a viewer completely...

Allison VS Karen for the 500th time is boring, so is speed pool and the same old trick shots

I also want to hear people's feedback on the first DCC PPV, the Sarah Rousey vs. Monica Webb all around.

I heard that match was great to watch, guess I missed a really good one.

As for the match I did see, it was awesome!
Even though Alex didn't play up to his normal speed throughout those two sets, it was still thrilling. The break was the biggest difference in the match, even when Alex hit them harder he couldn't control the cue ball. Hopefully he will work that out before they play in March. A race to 100 between these two guys will be the best yet IMO.

Not 100% sure, maybe the US Bar Table Championships in Reno will be the next PPV

I know TAR has a big one in March. Race to 100, 10 ball. Shane VS Alex.

If Alex doesn't get ready for it, it will be a similar result to what we have seen previously IMO. Shane doesn't make that many mistakes and if someone is going to beat him to 100 it will take a great player that has been training for the matchup

I was curious to see the ladies playing something other than 9ball on bucket tables. Sarah comes out firing with three strong banks on that great Diamond and I was impressed. I got my moneys worth as with everything that Tar has done; it's all a great value for the pool nut....I was also impressed with your encyclopedic knowledge of cue makers. Your a natural fit for the az guys who love the custom cue scene. With the problems JCIN/chad had with the hotel it was good that you volunteers were there to help out....good job guys.
 
You can always click on the zoom feature in IE for those of you that run in high native resolution. Its in the bottom right of your Internet Explorer window. Just select the size that fits you and it zooms in on your website you have up...move your bars to make the video window into the center and there you have it. Worked for me...

You have hit upon an easily overlooked strength in Shane's other wise stellar game, that is his preparation. He appears to strengthen with every outing. Shane has inherited the work ethic that is so widespread here in the Dakotas. If Alex wants to have a reasonable chance in a race to 100 he better double down because he isn't going the get there on his laurels...this should be a good one.

I was still disappointed in the picture quality, after reading all the posts by users claiming the PPV was DVD quality or close to it... It may have been due to the hotel not giving them the bandwidth needed to show higher quality, I am not sure how all that works..

Maybe the AZers that said it was DVD quality were wrong, and I was expecting too much. I have no idea, maybe on of the TAR guys can explain better.

Shane is a great example of what talent plus hard work and support will get you.
I feel lucky to be able to watch him play, let's just hope he doesn't burn out like so many others have

I was away for all of the PPVs so I can't speak for its quality, but I would highly doubt its dvd quality. Streaming dvd quality vid would be an enormous amount of bandwidth. I have little knowledge on the subject though so I'm prob wrong as usual. :p

the az'ers that said it was dvd quality were wrong! :D

whoever said that obviously isn't someone who knows pc's too well. dvd quality would, like dgunter said above, take up too much bandwidth. and besides, it's not like there's hardly any pool at all that's 'dvd' quality anyway. only the matchroom sport broadcasts come close ish i think.

but it's just as fluid and smooth which is the main thing, and more than high enough resolution to enjoy. very good value for money!

OK, thanks for clearing that up... :) I was wondering what the truth was.
 
I guess I have another question...


Haven't other PPV's been in Divx format? That is a much higher quality than this one had
