I have tried to reserve my opinion of the IPT until I have attended an event personally, spoken and listened to the players, and watched with my own eyes how things were done.
I was in Reno from 5th to the end of the tournament. My impression have been extremely positive.
I have been very impressed with how professional the tournament was conducted. I did not feel like I was attending a tournament organized by an organization which has only organized three events.
For something as big as the IPT, I can understand they would have a lot of unforeseen problems and "bugs." Overall, I think they have done a very impressive job. I cannot begin to comprehend the amount of work they have put in. I am sure they will improve and make this tournament an even more outstanding experience as they gain more experience.
Deno was very attentive, and he showed great leadership in leading a big crew to update the event, run the tournament, and so on. He also took his time to greet the audience, and to speak and listen to their feedback.
What I like most about the IPT is the image of the players that it presents. I like the fact that sportsmanship is really being emphasised, and the players all look very presentable and respectable. I like the dress code they enforce, and the fact that Deno is always dressed to the nines. The IPT is marketed with more sophistication than other pool events, I really like their approach.
I believe as time goes by, the IPT will have nothing but the best remaining on the tour. The tour will continue to gain more marketable value in terms of sponsorship and such.
Most players also appeared to be very proud of being there, and they were conducting themselves very professionally.
The only thing I would recommand is perhaps to disallow gambling right at the venue. I saw some players gambling on the practise tables in front of fans and other audience, while there were others wanting to play and practise. I find that very unprofessional considering that it was a public area with practise tables set up for the fans to interact with the players.
I can see why some would think that more refs should be added. Considering the amount of work and the work hours, I must say the refs are doing an outstanding job. It is hard to please everyone, and everyone makes mistake. I am sure things are going to be improved. From what I have observed, the refs were trying their best at their jobs. I have a lot of respect for that.
I also want to thank Nostroke, Charlie, Kelly, Val, Bob, Megan, Monica, Deno, Danny, Thomas, Ralf, Nick, Audra, Mark, Vincent, Stacy, Dave, and Jack for your wonderful company and for taking your time to make my IPT experience so exceptional and cherishable.
I will be looking forward to the Chicago event.
