My new BENDER CUE

Some of you know that I have been waiting a very long time for a cue that I have asked Mike Bender to build for me. It is a themed cue and one close to my heart. It won't take a rocket scientist to figure out what the theme is so I won't discuss what it looks like for now.

June 1 will be three years that this cue has been in production. Mike scrapped one of the cues he built because it didn't meet his standards. I never saw the cue but knew he had been working on it for a while. The cue has input from his wife Tracey who is an accomplished artist as well as from another cue maker Joe Ezell who was the first person I discussed the design with about 4 years ago. Joe helped narrow my focus on the concept to keep the design on target with what I hoped to accomplish.

Christian a beautiful young lady (who is married to a nice guy) has been hot after my current Bender cue for the last 2 years. She has made me take an oath that she will be the one to take ownership of my current cue when and if I ever get this next Bender cue. She or her husband send me emails or drop by the pool hall every 3 months to see if I am still alive and they force me to show them that I still have the Bender cue that she finds so attractive. I took the oath but wanted to reiterate publicly that part of the oath was that the new Bender cue must hit just as well as the current Bender I own or it is no sale for the old Bender. It has nothing to do with me and everything to do with the cue which is one of Mike's exceptional precision works of art although not terribly expensive. Apparently Christian sees what I see in Mike's cues and likes it a lot. She expressed an interest in the cue the first time she saw it and I told her a little about the new cue I had ordered and she like me has been waiting patiently. What I like most about my Bender is the way it plays. Many people ask to hit balls with it and everyone who can play just a little, say it is in a class by itself. So I know it is not just me that is prejudiced toward Bender cues. Most Bender cues play remarkably similar to each other.

Mike called me yesterday to tell me that the cue I have been waiting for should be ready by the end of this May. The design of the cue was my idea but I have had a few people who have helped me with the concept and design. My hope is that this cue when viewed that it will be a stimulus to give pause to everyday men and women and to help them to reflect on their thoughts about a very special subject. The already matched design cue case by Jack Justis is in waiting and narrowly escaped the wrath of hurricane Katrina. The current Bender went with me and the wife when we made our exodus from New Orleans.

To say that I am anxious and eager at the same time is an understatement. Those who know me know I don't brag about much of anything unless it is in jest and this note isn't about that either. It's just that I don't think I have ever been this pumped about anything except maybe my first night with my wife. ;-)

So please pardon the run-off but it has been a long three years over an important subject and I needed the relief valve of this medium. That red rubber ball is trying making an appearance in my life after a long eclipse.
God, I must really be sick................ :o

Warm Regards,
JoeyA

Joey ...

You peaked our interest ... Was she your wife on that first night? .... lol

Hey Joey, please post pictures, I'm curious to see what the case looks like too. I'm still searching for the perfect case.

Alex I will make sure you see the pictures. Why not design the case yourself. Jack can do just about anything. Look at the one he did for Shannon Daulton.

Sounds great and I share your excitement. I have my first Bender due in October. Nothing fancy but eagerly anticipated. Happy with my current cues too but wanted a Bender for a long time.
