My new project - Advice/Help needed

New member here although I have been reading these forums for a while.

As the thread title suggests, I am looking for advice about some work that I would like to get done on my Brunswick Gold Crown IV 9-foot table. If anyone can recommend a good mechanic who does work in Nassau County New York than that would probably be my best option although I am thinking about plan-B to do at least some of the work myself if I cannot find the right person.

Some background. I got the table recovered with Simonis 860 cloth after I was purchased around 7-8 years ago. At that time I had wanted the rubber to be replaced but the mechanic said that he thought it was not necessary. For one reason or another the table received almost no play on it between then and now.

My current situation

I just rejoined an APA league after nearly 20 years away and the league that I play in uses Gold Crown 9-foot tables. These were recently recovered using ANDY cloth. The tables already played much faster than my own even before work, but the table play afterwards leaves me in no doubt that I have dead rails and possibly not such a great job on the cloth installation as well.

To make matters worse, any regional playoffs and most of the singles tournaments are held in a different pool room which uses Diamond tables and where the pockets are much more challenging

My Project

So, in short, I need my table rail rubbers replaced and in all likelihood, I need the cloth replaced at the same time. If possible and if I find the right mechanic, I would like the rails to be extended so that I can tighten the pockets the right way as well.

I was thinking about using ANDY premium cloth as well as Artemis Intercontinental rubber although I am certainly interested to hear opinions about whether or not the Artemis Rubber ($560) is really $300 better than the Brunswick Superspeed rubber ($250).

I would only have the rail extension done if it was being done by an experienced mechanic. In other words I don’t think I would attempt it myself. If I cannot find a mechanic, then my plan would be to follow along with these instructional videos for Average Joes Pool The issue I have here is that I would end up buying a bunch of tools that may not get used again.

I am not sure about the rules on posting my phone number or email in a thread but i will be checking back in this thread for any responses. Thanks in advance for any helpful input

Welcome. I'm pretty for Oscar Aparicio (609-276-6687) services your area.

I'm of the opinion Artemis isn't worth the extra money. I'd also look into Diamond Black cushions. I've got them on my Gold Crown I and they play great.

I have Artemis on my GCI because that's what was being recommended at the time, although I don't have any complaints with my Artemis cushions I think I would use Superspeeds if replacing them again. Shortly after my rails were modified it seems the standard cushion became Superspeeds instead of Artemis. I would say that they are definitely not worth more than double the price.

Thanks guys. I just got off the phone with Oscar and I am going to go with him. Rail extensions, Superspeed K-55 rubber and Simonis 860HR cloth.

Hi, I thought Diamond Blacks only came in lengths for 7' & 8' tables. Can I get them for my GC4 8 1/2' ? I put superspeeds on 3 years ago and did sub rail extensions with baltic birch plywood. 4 1/8' pockets. Simonis 860. would just like some more speed.

They are sold in 48" lengths so, yes, long enough for a 9' table.

Simply swapping to Diamond cushions won't get you any noticeable increase in rebound speed.
