My Thoughts on Aiming

I’m sort of new to this discussion, and wanted to get some feedback from the A-Z nation.

I was frustrated by missing shots that would otherwise be simple makes. I was constantly stroking and missing the mark. I made things worse by adjusting the cue during the aim process. I finally brought into the “Indian not the arrow” belief and worked on my alignment. No specific drill - Just cueing straight and following through with the tip down. I reached the point where my eyes can be over the ball when I get down into the shot. Surprisingly everything else fell exactly into place. I knew that I’d found the “Eureka” moment when I was able to see my cut/bank/kick with more clarity. I simply walk the table, point to the correct aim line and take the shot. I’m now enjoying myself and sinking more shots. Kudos to all of my mentors and to the A-Z nation!

congrats :-)

Alignment is almost everything- And that you have always the *same* perspective as soon as you "watch/aim" standing on the shot line. And as you have shown up, you re allowing yourself also, to be able *to stroke* with enough room while being down on the shot (what is the most important thing).
to "See it" and being sure to be "right" can be a magic moment for many players :-)

congrats again- hit em hard ^^

Having switched to a 11.75 diameter shaft has definitely reached the “Eureka” moment. Now I must raise my level of play in order to navigate the table. I’m focused now on rehearsing the 7 step shot preparation for EVERY shot and locking in the “perspective” into my vision center. In practice I use the ghost and 90% tangent line to acquire the following information:
  • Natural Reference Line
  • Tangent Reference Line
  • Stop/Stun Reference Line
  • Follow/Draw Reference Line
I’ve watched Joshua Filler and the Ko brothers diagram their reference lines so I know how they read table patterns. I also like watching the GR Pool Student’s videos and the manner of how he teaches. Let’s keep the “EUREKA” movement moving! 📖🫵

I, too, have just recently switched to 11.75 and 12.0 tips -- and my game has improved dramatically.

Pros (nearly 100% of the time) do not wiggle the cue during the aim process. You found one secret toward improvement. Get down and make a good straight stroke, then assess the shot and adjust for the next or setup for the missed shot in practice and adjust.
