When I posted about a year ago about my first league win and how nervous I was everyone in the thread said to "keep us updated", so here goes.
First, let me preface this by saying this is not an apa praise or bash thread so please don't bother. It's the league I play in and for now I enjoy it.
We worked hard all session to play our best and just narrowly took top point. That means we get to bypass the playoffs and go directly to the challenge tournament. Two weeks before the end of session our sl 5 and 6 who are brothers had a good business opportunity in AZ and took off on us. A man's gotta do what a man's gotta do to make a living and I completely understand that pool league doesn't trump providing for your family but you can understand that we were put in quite a situation losing a couple of key players going into the challenge tournament.
Our team going into the tournament consisted of a 2,3,3,4,5,7 so we were not expecting much. I won't bore you with every detail but we won both of our matches on Saturday. I got bumped up to a sl4(funny story about that later). We came back Sunday to play our final match. Here's where it gets interesting. It just so happens that our 4 is on two teams at coc and we are playing her other team that day. Rather than choose a team she sits out and plays for neither team that way she's assured she'll advance to citywide.
Our low numbers rocked this! Our new 4(me) won, our 5 lost, our 2 won, our 7 lost. All we have left is a 3 and they have enough points to play a 6 and that's exactly what they did. To be honest, I really didn't think we had a chance. The 6 wins the first one. The 6 scratches on the 8 in the second one. Aahaa, now maybe we got a chance I'm thinking. The next game he dogs his last stripe leaving her great shape for her 2 then to the 8. She makes the 2 but does not get good shape on the 8. This is it. It's the final game of the final match, whitey is near the bottom rail and the 8 is about in the middle of the table with about a 30 degree cut to the opposing pocket. She steps up and nails it! We were all so excited. So that's my little league story and I'm really excited because I've never been to citywide.
Ok, I know this has been long but I promised a funny story about me being bumped up to a 4. Awhile ago I got a pool table at my house and have really been putting in the work to try and get better. Sometimes it shows up at league and sometimes it doesn't. In the first match on Saturday I play their 4. I whooped here 2-0 and she never reallly stood much of a chance. After the match was concluded I went to the front desk to inquire about a room. On my way back I decide to use the restroom. As I get there I see the table where our league operator sits surrounded by the team that we just beat. Bear in mind their backs are to me. I overhear their captain say something to the effect of how our low numbers are way too strong and their 3 should be a 5! I just laugh and out loud and say" you give me way to much credit. Make me whatever you want I don't really care." Then I walked into the bathroom. That guy turned about 3 shades of red when he saw me. It was priceless! Thanks for listening to my rambling story:grin:
