Jenn,

Well i just checked the brackets, and seen you got past your first two rounds, and now you hafta face Allison Fisher. Well i wish you best of luck when dealing with Allison, although if you do beat Allison, then you will probaby get to deal with Ga Young Kim next, so I am not sure if losing would be such a bad thing in this situation lol. But I doubt your thinking that. Plus, to be able to beat a person, you hafta face them.

Hopefully you have time to give us the 411 on the tournament.

As a newbie to the board, easy question.

Where are the online brackets to the tournament in NC?

Thanks.

go to www.wpba.com . Look at the lower right part of the home page. There should be an image of the location. Right underneath that image, you'll see the word "Brackets" in blue. Click on it and you're in the money!

Hey Dave,

Nash Community College is a great venue...all the seating is elevated so you can see the tables clearly. It has the best VIP seating that I've seen because it's front row, but still above the tables.

I did win my first two matches...in my first one I struggled a little bit with nerves, but got through it. In my match last night I played very well...I can only remember missing one ball, and my safes were lock-up.

Tonight I play Allison and my plan is to just play my game. If my game isn't enough to win, then at least I'll know I did the best I could. I love drawing the top players. It gives me the opportunity to measure my game against theirs and see where I need to be, and it exposes my weaknesses so I know what I need to practice. I'll try to update you at some point tomorrow!

All the best,

Jenn

Jenn,

Good attitude, but maybe you shouldn't even think about "who" your next opponent is unless it's a player who has a weakness that can be exploited.Just get relaxed and mentally focused on playing your best! Best of luck and sink a nine ball for me :D ( uhh...try and make it the final nine ball ;) :D ).

Good luck against Allison and good luck for the rest of the tournament. I like your attitude towards playing the top players (you and Melissa sure got some good one's this week). Even if you lose, there's no better way to see how well you're doing than playing against the very best.

Hi All,

Just returned from a rather disappointing tournament. 17th used to be a good one for me, but I expect so much more now. When I played Allison she played absolutely awesome...I was playing safes that left her right on the ball and no natural kicking paths and she was kick-safing me or kicking them in. She missed 2 balls and left me hooked once, but all in all she was on her home turf and she played incredible. I think she'll win this one.

My second loss was a super-tough one, and my stomach hurts just thinking about it. I was playing Tiffany Nelson, and I was playing very well. I got a good lead on her (7-4) and then I just froze up. Every time I had a chance to get out I blew it. I had a final chance in the hill-hill rack when she scratched on the break, but jarred an easy 4 ball and she ran out. I'd so much rather play great and get beat than beat myself. It's very disappointing, but I'm committed to getting over these mental lapses. I just keep reminding myself of a proverb "You must fall 7 times and get up 8." So that's my plan.

Heya Jenn

Jenn,

Sorry you are disappointed in your finish of the Carolina Classic. I for one think you did very well. I personally have v-money on Allison winning it.

Now about the second match you lost...let me tell you what I do in certain situations in tournaments and it helps. I try to focus on each time at the table as a different moment in time...each one I can control what is happening right now, and can not change nor focus on what has already happened. If I let those negatives enter my mind, then they are taking away my concentrations on the shot in front of me. I call this my mental game in pool. I am currently reading a book called "Pleasures in small motions" and I highly recommend it if you have not read it already. I think maybe you were too focused on what had been going wrong, and not able to focus on the lead you had and put her away. But hey, I am just a midget in a wheelchair, what do I know.

I did have the pleasure of seeing you play Julie Kelly from last year's match...and I got to say...that was one helluva match. Amazing shots by both of you, with a bit of luck sprinkled in on her side, but really on both sides if you count the first game.

You have a very very strong stroke, your break just needs some tweaking and I think you would be a very strong contender on the tour...not that you are not already...but I think if you steadied out your break some, you could break into the top ten. I am really amazed at the speed and strength you have...I wouldn't wanna arm wrestle ya...*wink*

But regardless I want to be the first to congratulate you on a tournament well played, and wish you the best in the next one...keep at it Jenn, you got a great new fan here in me!

Thanks, Shorty...

I think I must start competing more in between tournaments to get used to the pressure. I'll try using your mental game techniques....thanks!

Jenn

Sorry that you did not do as well as you would have liked, Jenn, but as I just wrote in Melissa's forum, it's always good if you can learn something in a defeat to maybe help you in the future. Good luck at the next tournament.

PJ

ps: It's too bad the WPBA no longer comes to Valley Forge. It's only a short drive from where I go to college and it would be awesome to see an event live.

I don't know if anyone has asked this before, but what do you do for practice between tournaments? How do you practice?

Hey Jazz,

My practice is usually 20% alone and 80% matching up. My alone time consists of drills, working on shots that are giving me trouble and playing the ghost.
