hiya all;

as it seems that many new players are wanting a custom cue, and sometimes its hard to know exactly how it will look before u make it. ive descided to do this.

ive using 3d programs for over years, as im a architect, ill build a 100% correct 3dmodel of a pool cue in autocad, and make realsitic pictures of how your cue would look like.

now the part i need help with is :
1/ materials : - maps of materials (not just plain pictures, as the program will copy the maps one next to the other, they need to be compatible.. (mm not sure how to exlpain this, as my englisch isnt excelent.) the vains etc of the wood need to be the same on left and right side, and on uper and down side.. im I any clear? (i havent checked yet wich one i have ni 3dstudio, but im sure ive got some, as i got some material add-on cd's)

im especially looking for perfect maps of cocobolo (mexican cocobolo too if possible as i love how they look), curley maple, birdseye maple, and stained versions of them (cinnamon-stained curly maple is the one im especially looking for) etc, the most used once.

2/ measurements. diameter of the cue at the butt and joints, ill make the ferule 13mm. and maybe measurements of joints and ferules (how long are they usualy)

once the model is made, just pm me how u want your cue to look like, and whenever ive got time, ill put the materials/inlays etc u wanted on the model, render it, and post your pictures.

edit: found these http://www.waynecustomcues.com/exotic.html maybe i could use these materials... have to check with my program as im not sure they can be used as maps.

Not to be ungrateful as I think its cool someone else wants to do this for people, but I've already taken measurements of a cue, made the model, made it availible a little while ago:

http://www.azbilliards.com/vbulletin/upload/showthread.php?t=21143&highlight=model

and also as per an older thread I've been making realistic models because I a have a ton of stock footage of ivory/ebony/exotic woods/ect and everyone I've done it for has given very good feedback.(but due to custom designs I cant post them here, but they are using realistic wood and look pretty good imho that is when I have the time)

the model included is .obj which should work in whatever program you want, or you can try blender which the file there is also included, its a free 3d renderer and whatnot.

So anyway, hope you enjoy the model, its all ready to be custom mapped too.

Measurements are included in the file I believe.

So to everyone else, if you want a custom cue made with realstic wood and rendered and stuff, I'm also availible to do that!

Also, I think you are talking about seamless textures(which are useful), anyway I have a bunch of good wood textures but since they are taken from nature they would need to be taken to gimp or photoshop to be made seamless... however since the cue is going to be custom rendered, i've found its a lot better quality and easier to just hide the seam(which is barely noticable) in the back of the cue.

If you want help on making seamless textures, just ask though, it isnt too hard.(be sure to color correct though since it needs to appear unshaded before the renderer takes over).

never heared of that program :s

ill try to see if i can import it, but its hard to beat 3dstudio.
could u send me a zip file with all the maps u have?

lol..... 3dstudio.

I have it(3dstudio) and found its great for certain apps but overall I started on blender and you can produce just about everything, plus I've coded for it because its opensource and its always improving.

However its more about what you know and what you can do than what program you use, there are plenty of awesome models coming out of blender/wings3d/silo/ect and plenty of bad things coming out of 3dstudio.

However, .obj is a standard and 3dstudio WILL read it....

I dont know if I have the bandwith(be over 75mb just on wood)...

I would check out some free texture sites looking for pictures of wood that are high quality.

If you still need some specific textures after looking let me know, but since most upload places cap at 30-50mb and I dont have really great bandwith i'd rather not upload a 75mb folder of wood things.

i understand that all the maps is a bit big.

the once im interested:

different stains of birdseye and curly/tiger maple
cocobolo
rosewood
and mahony

and maybe some leather wraps (might have those, havent had time yet to check the maps that come with the program)

good i can import your model. ill do so as soon as i find some time.

thx m8
