I have reached a new high in my game, I have gone hill hill with a couple of pros a few times in tournament play 200 entries.. I also play 1 lower handicap tourney a week where I have to give balls to everyone and their mother...which I don't mind and I always go deep but in both kinds of tournaments I lose a little bit of edge or whatever in the later rounds and can never win the tourney..

In the big ones I'm happy to go hill hill with great players but I want to win maybe I have to star realizing that I can actually beat them...but how do you keep focused, how do you refocus, how do you stay in focus...I have been working on respecting every shot and that has helped a lot but there is something missing and I need to figure it out so I can reach a higher level...

fyi I can't spend hours on end playing....I work and I'm a family man but the 1-2 hours a day and 1 big tourney every 1-2 months is what I do.

Any help is appreciated. There are no wrong answers...I will take all and use appropriately.

Regards

Playing in tournaments is physically and mentally draining. You may start to get tired or hungry near the end of the tournament. It can slowly affect you without you even realizing what's happening. When that happens you won't think as clearly as you did earlier.

Bring some healthy snacks with you, like fruit and nuts. Maybe bring some vitamin b-12 tablets with you also, for energy. Keep it natural.

I will do that, the energy bars and b12 sound like a great idea.

One of the greatest 9 ball players of all time, Luther "Wimpy" Lassiter ate hamburgers during his matches. :-)

I like to take a very quick break to splash some water on my face in the restroom, and rinse chalk off my hands before thoroughly drying them. A little cold water refreshes your mindset sometimes. It's like taking first (confident) shots in the tourney, after.

That helps...I do that...where I go wrong is consistently doing this things...it's a mind set thing to repeat behaviors when I do its usually the beginning of a tourney and later when I don't I mess up...same thing with eating like the above post...consistency is what I'm striving for...

Yesterday I didn't play well but I was consistent with 2 things... preparing mentally before each match and not being angry or act baffled at how I missed a shot...I was able to get out even after missing easy shots on my first turn..or after playing a bad safe...etc
