I have the opportunity to buy a Jim Buss cue… it is an 8 point high/low 4 veneers in the long points (red, black, red, black) and the points end about ¼” below the joint ring… they are very long. There are 4 ivory diamond inlays in the ebony points and in the ebony butt. It has nice red, black, and natural ringwork at A, B and C. The wrap is linen, one shaft is broken… cue comes with nice original custom joint protectors, piloted ivory joint, cue needs a refinish. The cue is signed “My Personal Cue 95 Jim Buss One of One”. The price is $1200.

Don’t know a thing about Buss cues, other than the fact that this is a beautiful cue (that needs a little restoration) and has a nice hit.

Can anyone help me with this decision? Should I buy the cue?

Jim builds a great cue. He is literally a "Rocket Scientist" turned cuemaker! He has a website that will give you more information.

Yes if you have the money you should buy it. I will be taking a serious look at buying or ordering one from him at the Expo

I have two cues made by him and it hits great. For the price that you quoted....sounds like a good deal. I would say to get it...

Jim is a great guy and makes a wonderful playing cue. If do buy it you should have Jim refinish it then post some pictures here on AZ.

There was one on ebay that I flirted with bidding on. You can check it out.....do a search under completed auctions for Buss cue. Nobody bid on it and I think it was a good deal. The price was $750, two shafts, 4pt w/ veneers in like new condition. It was a nice looking cue.

In my opinion, it sounds like the ebay cue was a better deal since it was in better shape, and had two shafts. If you had another shaft made and a refinish, the cue you mention would be double the price?

Doug

Jim is one of the best cue builders there is. Jim is also one of the nicest guys you'll ever meet and will help you in any way. New shafts are in the $150 - $200 range. Buy it!!

I ran into Jim yerterday at the VF Pool Expo. Really nice guy and his work is even nicer. I looked (under 3X magnification) at the points, veneers and his details. I have a lot of respect for the work I saw and fell for a hoppe ring ebony cue, 4-point cue with 4 veneers. I really liked what I saw.

Now I never hit with one so I will leave that up to our other friends on the forum. I can only comment on the work I saw...Impressive.

Will touch base with you later,
Myron
