sand with 600. you only raised the grain. maybe 400 then 600. easy fix

Yes thats an easy fix for someone that knows what they are doing.. Telling someone to sand on there shaft without knowing if they have the proper equipment of even the proper know how is a quick way for them to ruin their shaft. Expecialy with something as corse as 400 grit. Its pritty easy to make your shaft nonconcentric when sanding by hand. You should try to reburnish you shaft first with a undyed piece of leather or a brown paper sack. Just rub it up and down on the shaft and see if you get the desired feel. If that does not work I would suggest taking it to your local cue repairman and having your cue resealed and waxed..

come on... how much damage can he really do with a pc of 600 grit. zero. esp without a lathe spinning 2500 rpms.
you dont need "equiptment" to sand your shaft for 3 seconds to get it smooth again

i said maybe 400... do me a favor. go get a pc of 400 grit sandpaper (not and enite pc just about 1/8th.) start sanding at 13mm and let us know when you got to 12.75. youll be there awhile possible forever

dan your not gonnd do any damage.

Man you cant be all there if you think that sanding a cue by hand will not make it out of round. You try taking your little piece of 400 grit and hand sanding up and down the shaft. I guarantee you that it will make the shaft out of round. And I dont see in his post where he is wanting to change the diameter of his shaft. We are talking about getting his shaft smooth again.. And for that matter its pritty easy to over sand and make your ferrule higher than your shaft.. So in my opinion its never a good idea to hand sand on a shaft..

ok you win.... dan send your shaft out joe. hopefully youll have it back in 2 weeks... gl

if you can make your shaft out of round with a single small pc of 600 grit paper you must have gorilla hands.

btw anytime you sand spinning round against the grain of a shaft you should sand a few passes with the grain to smooth out the lines. i do it everytime i clean a shaft. guess im just a hack:shrug:

I am not asking nor am I telling him to send me his shaft to have this done.. I am sure that there is a cue repair man in his area that can do the job just fine and only charge him a couple bucks to do the job right.. All that I am saying is its a $5 fix so why take a chance.

I think you should let a professional handle this. Not so much because you might damage the shaft. But because you have already raised the grain and most likely still have some bleach powder trapped in those open pores. At this point your shaft needs to be cleaned properly on a lathe and then most importantly sealed and burnished. That is hard to do by hand, and the few bucks a local repairman would charge is well worth paying for. When you get your shaft back slick, sealed and ready to go you will be glad you spent the change.
