Not sure of the accuracy, but he seems to know what he's talking about

No doubt Scott is an authority. I understood that rosewood looks like the below example. The example I posted at #1 appears to be a different wood

I don’t think the pic the OP posted is Rosewood. A beautiful wood, but looks nothing like Rosewood, looks more like Teak to me, but probably not.

I have an antique cue here that looks like same as the one in the eBay listing. I remember refinishing this one about 40 years ago what a unique smell this wood has. Kids, nephews have done a number on it since then.

Me Nether, apart from the points and ivory ring, it does look like it's been cared for.nomally the wood shrinks, and the collars pop free. So that part might have been redone. The badge also looks too good. But anyway at that price it is too high, if your going to convert it. I think there was another one there for 400 that looks just as good.

Also, check out the forearm signature -- looks like it was "inked". Plus there is the fact of two shafts. There is a story here, but I am first concerned with the wood id.

Also the weight stamp has the same treatment, back to your question: it does look like a wood called ipe wood, also known as brazilian walnut. You see that color alot in hoppe cues.

I don’t know much about Hoppes, but it looks like lacewood to me based off of the color and grain.

The wood is unlike any I have seen in an early (1st Label) WHPro. The wood looks more like that in a much later version, As I said, there is a story that goes with this cue, but my primary interest is determining the type of wood.

They used about any and every variant of woods, especially rosewood.

Thst one is definitely walnut BTW

Further, although I fully realize we are only dealing with "ebay accuracy", I find it very interesting that the cue is described as an "Original Willie Hoppe Titleist Cue".

The wood in this cue is Mahogany, the most common WH Pro wood

And, was mahogany used in the early ones? I just do not recall seeing an early WHPro like this, but I am certainly no expert
-- just wanting to be certain what little I do know is accurate.
